    Mateus in squad

In squad yesterday - anyone seen the Portugese signing yet??

    #2

He has played one or two games for UCC in AIL Div 2, seemed to go well enough but he had International duty for much of the last 6 weeks so he's missed a few ML games he might have got a run in.

He must be doing something right though, Kidney wouldn't bother to have him ahead of Mossie if he wasn't showing some ability in training.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

he has been on the bench twice now, but neither time has he been played. Hopefully in some cl game in the near future.

I believe he scored a try in both games for portugal against georgia last month.

He must be alright to be making the bench, wouldnt be surprised if we see him get a run out around 6 nations time when the squads tight

So what does that say for Mossies future?

Full back or nowhere at a rough guess. Where is he playing this season with shannon?

May also mean Mossie isn't 100% yet and isn't going to be risked.

Mossie is 100% fit. DK just isn't picking him. I would be very surprised to see him here next year.

Rumour was he wouldn't be here this year - in fact end of last season he was one of the strongest rumours as having already left. Thing is if you look at some of the rubbish earning good money in certain other countries he could make a lot of teams around Europebut would he want to move? Could we afford to lose a man who's covered OH, IC, OC, Wing and FB over the past 5 or so years?

Yes I think so. He's a good player, but others within the squad offer more at the highest level.

Dermot, we've got Payne retiring, Cullen out of contract, Kelly 33 and unsure about how long will stay around, Hoggie is struggling with injuries, Manning not developing, uncertain if Halstead is staying or not (IIRC his original statement was 2 years then off home), Mateus hasn't actually played for us yet, Mafi is still settling in, no obvious FB coming through, we released the man we used most at IC at the start of the season. I don't see much of AIL or academy players but are there really enough coming through who are good enough to make up for lacking his experience?

Lawlor is a class player, and there should be room for him at Munster. Would like to see him playing 13 with Halstead at 12. I reckon that'd be a very dangerous combination.

Fullback is covered, Geordie Murphy will be in a red Adidas jersey this summer.
