Cullen and Horgan both picked up injuries in the game against Ulster at the end of September, Horgan made his return last weekend and Cullen’s return to full fitness allows Shaun Payne a well deserved rest

Interesting side - lots to comment on.

Seems to be a chance for Cullen and Mafi to win HEC places. Big chance for Hurley and O'Leary especially, it is no co-incidence his best performance at 9 last year was beside O'Gara, I hope it goes well for him.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

I thought they might have gone with Stringer & Manning rather than O'Leary and ROG. There seems to be a growing consensus that O'Leary doesn't have the pass for a HEC-standard 9; so we could have opted to see more of Manning with decent quality ball instead.

Bit of a gamble not starting the hec team though

keep a sharp eye on ROG when he's receiving those passes Joey ... even when stringer's service went dodgy in the pastROG usually managed to cope and keep things moving smoothly for the rest of the backs.

ROG has a fair ability to take passes smoothly that other players would miss completely, or else drop/knock-on. It's not something people tend to notice, but if you watch for it, it can be pretty impressive.

We've one or two handy impact subs if things aren't going our way.
When things go wrong, blame McGahan

Sorry to bring this up (yet) again, but what's the story with foreigners in the team - is there a limitation for the ML? We have two Kiwis and an Argie in the team, plus an Aussie (and Manning's still 'officially' a Kiwi isn't he?) on the bench.

It could be Deccy playing his favourites again, it could a great chance to give O'Leary gametime beside experienced players, it could be last chance saloon for O'Leary, it could be becuase Keane is also a breaking scrumhalf.

That really isn't the issue. They will have gone 5 weeks without the hec team playing a match.

Le Puc has an Italian passport, Mafi is included under the Kolpak rules?

So who goes to full back if Cullen comes off injured? I obviously hope he lasts the game and is up to the pace, but, you know, its happened before.

Freddie has an Italian passport. Mafi is OK as well for some funny rule about Pacific Islanders AFAIK, McGann has an Irish Grannie - so it's just Cullen and Manning.
