Munster v. Grenoble Friday, TP 19:00

Right, you slack-jawed Schmidderites, enough of your hankering after Team Green Monkey, there's work to be done!

    Pre-season. Grenoble. Friday. TP.

Tyler Bleyendaal making his debut at - drumroll! - 10. GvdH should be back, too. Dinny leaving training in a moon-boot.

So, everyone have a good summer, then, lads? All feeling rested? Ye look it. Corner. Hennie Mullers. Off we go, and enjoy your run...

Looking forward to seeing Tyler getting his first cap.

I wonder who'll be scrumhalf, TOL?

TOL was only rehabbing in Friday training, possible but doubt it

Is Cronin now training as a tighthead or is that further down the line?

Sherry won't be: Axel is quoted that because he's been so long out, he'll have a bit longer to work back in. He will be playing in the pre-season games, though. Foley and Copeland are, SFAIK, on their way back still, maybe a couple of weeks, but, we'll see.

'Tis good to be back. Clean that muck out of the system. 30 seconds, get your breath, and off again, lads...

Head Coach Anthony Foley has named his side to face Grenoble at Thomond Park tomorrow night and blends a mix of senior, academy, sub-academy and club talent for the first game of the Kearys Renault Series - KO 7pm

In total nine players are in line to make their first senior appearance as Foley experiments with his options for the coming season while as many as five players return having completed their return-to-play rehab over the course of pre-season

An all-senior front row sees John Ryan and BJ Botha start on either side of Niall Scannell with academy lockJohn Madigan and the returning Dave Foley (wrist) completing the tight five.

Shane Buckley and Robin Copeland have both recovered from their respective shoulder injuries to take their places in the back-row at 6 and 8, while new signing and former Leinster player Jordan Coghlan starts at openside.

The half-back partnership of Cathal Sheridan and the fit again Tyler Bleyendaal (neck) sees the former New Zealand U20 captain make his long awaited senior debut for the province, while last season's AIL Division 1A Player of the Season, Matt D'Arcy, is another making his first appearance in the red jersey. The centre is joined in the midfield by Cian Bohane who completes his long road to recovery following a serious knee injury sustained during last season's pre-season action.

Gerhard van den Heever has also rehabbed his knee injury and starts on the left wing with Darren Sweetnam on the opposite flank in a back-three completed by academy full-back David Johnston who makes his first start for the senior side.

A proud day for the Johnston family also sees younger brother Bill (sub-academy) provide cover on the bench. The young fly-half was instrumental in Rockwell's Schools Senior Cup success last season and is one of five players in line to make their senior debut for the province - Peter McCabe (senior), Rory Burke(academy), Conor Oliver (academy), Diarmuid McCarthy (Young Munster) and Steve McMahon (academy).

Donncha O'Callaghan, Kevin O'Byrne, Sean McCarthy (academy), Ryan Foley (academy) and Ned Hodson(academy) complete an extended matchday squad of 26.

Munster XV: David Johnston; Darren Sweetnam, Cian Bohane, Matt D'Arcy, Gerhard van den Heever; Tyler Bleyendaal, Cathal Sheridan; John Ryan, Niall Scannell, BJ Botha; John Madigan, Dave Foley; Shane Buckley, Jordan Coghlan, Robin Copeland

Replacements: Kevin O'Byrne, Peter McCabe, Rory Burke, Donncha O'Callaghan, Sean McCarthy, Ryan Foley, Bill Johnston, Diarmuid McCarthy, Conor Oliver, Ned Hodson, Steve McMahon.

Munster v Grenoble, Kearys Renault Series, Friday August 14th at Thomond Park - KO 7pm.

After the game, all spectators are invited to join the Munster players at a post-match BBQ in the Fan Zone Plaza where they will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures. (Match ticket covers entry but not food.)

Tickets can be purchased online here, from the Munster Rugby Ticket Offices at Thomond Park and Irish Independent Park, or by calling 0818 719 300.

On the injury front, Denis Hurley, who picked up an ankle injury at Tuesday's training session will undergo further review after the weekend once the swelling subsides.

Great to see Madigan getting a start and Rory Burke on the bench after their injury problems. Also interesting to see Jordan Coghlan at 7. Couple of notable absentees, hope Archer and JOD aren't injured or anything?

Great to see Bohane back from injury. Would like to see him get a decent run of games in the Pro12 to see what he can do. We badly need center cover

I look back on 2008 at the Millennium Stadium as the highlight of my career because, although being capped by New Zealand and playing for the All Blacks was fantastic, this was special. - Doug Howlett

Yes, for sure. It was in the pre-season game at the Waterford Showgrounds when he was injured - a full year gone. Time flies.

Good luck to him. And to them all. It would be good to get through a pre-season series with no serious injuries on the pitch for any of the players, home or away.
