    French referees

What is it with these guys? They are dreadful lately. Berdos, Poite & now this clown Gauzere. He completely ruined the game with incessant use of the whistle and the penalty count was astronomical.. He never allowed the game to develop for both sides. Supposedly he has issued more YC's than he has reffed games.
These refs seem to want to be the centre of attention for every game. A good referee should go unnoticed but that's never the case with the aforementioned clowns.

Completely agree. He even gave a free against murray for crooked in, when even the sky panel agreed it was straight. A complete joke of a referee

Munster seemed determined to dive in off their feet whenever they felt there was a chance of winning a turnover. They were rightly penalized several times for that.
The stop start nature of the game had more to do with the two teams than the ref.
Also felt the ref did well defusing a game that could have got quiet nasty by dishing out the two yellows in the first half.

The issue isn't so much what damage he did to flow or to our efforts or any of that. It's that he was calling things like knock ons, crooked feeds, basics of the game and the infringement never happened, not a 50-50 call but it simply never happened. That's a level of performance where he needs to be put on a recovery plan because someone who'd never actually seen a game would have as much chance of getting those right/wrong as he did tonight.

I don't anyone can argue that Munster didn't go off their feet. But one problem i had with the ref was that on 4/5 occasions our lads were on there feet with hands on the ball legally competing and being illegally prevented by Sarries either bridging or not releasing. As soon as our guy was knocked of his feet he was pinged?

No doubt Munster were guilty of doing that a few times but he was clearly looking for reasons to penalise teams. He ruined the game & didn't allow any contest for the ball at rucktime.

In France, we are desperate of our referees too .
The principal referees are bad and biased, and the line-out judges (Sorry I'm not sure of English name) raise their flag when a player souffles on an other player to get noticed .

I genuinely feel sorry for you guys if that's the level of refereeing you're getting every week.

yes we were correctly penalised at times, sherry a couple of times for silly over the tops. ryan for one silly in from the side and botha for collapsing in one scrum.

                  however... we also had:

ref telling de kock he couldn't take the quick tap, then marching us ten yards after de kock did it anyway and ran straight into a red shirt.

sarries loosehead popping up in the scrum only for botha to get pinged.

pom to be blown for a knock on without knocking it on.

sarries players ignored while offside at every ruck and kick.

sarries employing a troup of line blockers who would do the new england patriots proud.

those decision time and time again kill any momentum you can build in a game. this idiot was not making decisions based on events occurring in front of him. i don't like to throw accusations about but the premeditated manner in which french referees come to thomond park really worries me.

Thank you, but Romain Poite and Pascal Gauzere are our two better referees, the other are worse ...
Did you see a match refereed by Jean-Pierre Matheu ? Elected several years worse referee of Top14 by the players themselves, it's why he refereed the final of Top14 2008-2009 . When you see this referee every week, your scale value of quality of the referees is upset ...

I thought he was pretty good, very consistent at rucks particularly, made a few mistakes but generally I thought he did his best in a very difficult game to referee

Random P*tain plain inventing a penalty against POM v. Argentina being a splendid example.

I like Garces, and rate him highly. The others are now simply an open scandal.

I don't agree that tonight was a case of "typical french referee". This is the case of a ref who controlled the game slightly pernickity but relatively balanced for 60 minutes and then flipped a switch quite blatantly to ref the game in a very worrying way for European rugby.

Garces is a specialist of "home" arbitrage too .
