Both will be a loss, especially Flannery who’s been part of the mould for a long time now. Going to be a busy summer
"The PRO12 is our domestic league, it's what you earn your bread and butter from; it's what pays the bills. We need to broaden our emphasis and get an understanding in Irish rugby that the domestic league from now on is most important and that's what qualifies you now for Europe.'' Garrett Fitzgerald, CEO Munster

Surprised but not sad to see Felix go. Decent backline but not a lot of innovation there or,in reality, under van gránn.

The only thing this year is that the league starts 3 or 4 weeks later than normal, so we have a bit of extra time to get people in place.

After thinking on it a while, having a complete clean slate of coaches with no Munster history or loyalties could be a good thing. Having legends on the coaching staff hasn't worked out recently.

Best of luck to the two lads.

Interesting that they are both off. Perhaps there was a view that we have also been underperforming in areas beyond the backs?

Agreed with all of this. The spotlight will also be elsewhere, and opponents weakened at least as much as us- so not a bad time to bed things in.

Would also say that both Flannery and Felix went through the mill over the last few years, and am sure that is there was anything they could have done to improve things, they would have done so.
Our scrum and line out went through some dire times a couple of years ago- and that was put right, or at least greatly improved. Alas our back play hasn’t.

They were tired of taking flak for decisions made by the head coach or the leadership group I'd imagine. Plus someone offered them more money.

Munster pack gone off the boil in recent weeks but looked like Flannery had them organised and motoring. Disappointed that both he and Felix didn't stay another year.

PS Totally unsubstantiated suggestion that Tyler will join the coaching staff at some point.

Set piece has been good but I think we’re a bit over-reliant on a couple of big game players up front (POM and CJ). I think there’s room for improvement there.

To be honest, I’m not too concerned, as long as we get really good replacements in.

Fla and Felix may have felt they had nothing more to offer after the latest semi-final defeat and it was time to move on, for their own careers and for Munster’s sake.

All is clearly not well behind the scenes, I can see both going on to have good coaching careers. The day that Munster is used for inexperienced coaches has to be gone. Looks at Holland now in NZ, doing a fine job after serving his time here.
JVG has made a big call, time will tell now.

Is it a jvg call though If so its a bit hypocritical because wasn't he saying the lads were staying and one more might arrive?

JVG brought in J P Ferreira to fix a defence problem and it was solved. Whilst some here are reluctant to criticise Fla one has to admit that the Offensive Forward play has been poor so that had also to be fixed going forward. Without quick and go forward ball the Backs are impotent against organised defences. Can JVG find coaches to solve our problems is the unanswered question just now. The players can give these 2 coaches a proper send off by finishing this season on a Winning note with exceptional performances.

The scope of our ambition is now in the spotlight. We’ve Made do with prospects ie: Kleyn, Tyler. Whereas Leinster got the finished articles, Fardy & Lowe. And an a international level coach in Lancaster to boot while we got novices. Feckin fed up of it to be honest. And we wonder why we don’t achieve at the pointy end of the season

The lads have turned down Munster contracts. WTF?
Has someone made them an offer they couldn't refuse?
It's hard to believe that they may have baulked at a more senior coach coming in, having witnessed how Axel dealt with Rassie and knowing that Munster are in need of something more than we have already.

Best of luck to them in any case.
