Points difference...Points difference!!

After finally coming out of my depression after the week end, I got around to checking out the ERC website and had a look at the final table for Pool 4. It obviously didn't register on the day, but Leicester won the pool on points difference...for feck sake!!!

No, they won the pool because, in the games between us and them, they scored three tries and we scored two.

Not exactly points difference, rather tries scored.

I thought it was because The tigers had scored more tries in the games between the two teams no?

Missing the last try in Geneva cost us dear, we were so close at the end.

Forget the points difference, what cost us was not taking the 3 points that was on offer on SATURDAY!

Correct, although we hardly deserved it on the day!

Correct, and that forced us not to kick that subsequent one in from of the posts. Anyway. History now, as long as POC learns from it and makes himself a better captain for it.

Just shows how close we were to endingup top of the pool and playing Stade Fat home... ahem or in England or Wales ... well I'm not sure we've really lost out to be honest

However, it is interesting to note that the call to go for the scrum rather than the penalty was not aneasy one...it was probably to put us in a position to contest the points difference matter (as we were 1 down on tries and needed a try to level the first qualification factor)... then again the points difference was not really in our favour as we only had +2 from the Welford Rd victory... moreover if they thought of it in that way then they weren't thinking about winning

All done and dusted now but it is true that the try we missed late on inGeneva cost us dearly... if you look back at that... POC came very very close but lacked an inch... when the ball came back out lePuc went for the line instead of passing out to a 3 or 4 on 1 situation with Bambi clear to theline... now this is wherethe frustration lies... we want to play expansive rugby but when it's not working we go back to basic forward stuff just when the situationis on for expansive rugby!???

We are just not there yet and IMO should not experiment in key matches such as the Leicester match where conditions just didn't make it possible to play that style in the 1st half... we need totest our ability to play an expansive gamein the ML and bring it on at times in the HCup when we're secure in terms of score... we certainly have nothing to win by going foran expansive style vs Scarlets as they are better than usat this WITHOUT A DOUBT! If we want to win we'll need to play powerful stuff up front to put them on the back foot... then we canmove to expansivestuffwhen we're in scoring distance and we've tired them out

its not the first time we've failed to take bonus points in games and it cost us
