Yes and no. To have the coverage is fantastic, especially for those of us ouside Lenland. However (and I'm not commenting on the Newstalk coverage here because I didn't hear it) I despair of the standard of commentary on a lot of stations.

Nobody (well, maybe Axel ) walks out of the womb knowing the intricacies of rugby, not to mention the fact that many people don't play rugby, or indeed, spend a ridiculous amount of their time on sites like this.I just worry that this onslaught of smug, mediocre, inexplicably uninformative commentating/analysis will result in an increasingly large number of uneducated fans with little grasp of what's actually going on on the pitch. Here endeth the sermon.

One more point on this. The TV column indicates the host broadcaster. The local schedules are different. For example Setanta showed the Cardiff Llanelli match. Most if not all of those games will be shown in each region, setanta in Ireland, BBCW/S4C in Wales and BBCS/Setanta in Scotland

      Exactly the point, Setanta Bob.

Looking back, I think that my main problem with the Newstalk commentary on Leinster-Ulster was that they didn't seem to be taking the game seriously enough. Especially Mick Quinn, who's a bit of a joker anyway.

It'l be interesting to see how NewsTalk evolve their coverage of not only Ladies games but of other provinces as well. As most said, at least they were at the Sportsground covering the game.

Funniest commentary I heard on that station was listening to the Ladies V Munster in the RDS last January. Had NewsTalk and their Ladyboy commentary on the radio, and slightly delayed on the Net, had Crazy Len on Live95. Well, the interpretation of 50-50 calls was hilarious in their difference; polarised is NOT the word. Not saying Len is the Model citizen when it comes to balance, but that vicious Ladyboy bias needs to be got rid off before Munster supporters will trust them for impartiality and as a source for game-commentary.

Still, credit where it's due, the Off the Ball show is very enjoyable, very good format for such a show and some very good interviews. Not too bad for such a relatively new private Radio station that's not pulling in €Millions€ in license fees and wasting it on uselesss**t like Pat Kenny, Marianne 'Fags' Finucane or Celebrity Jigs and Reels!

I thouht their commentary on the Munster Connacht game on NYE was pretty level from the bias point of view, but yer man Oisín seemed to get bored for about 20 minsinthe middle of the 2nd half. Blabbering on and reading out texts & getting another ounce of BS out of Mannion, instead of telling us what was happening on the pitch.

Len must've been live 'cos we were getting the scores in the chatroom way before (like 45-60 seconds) the Newstalk commentary. Seemingly the Newstalk lag is to censor any unforseen circs. And Len was broadcasting live
