    Ref Cam

Can't see this posted anywhere else, Fox Sports Oz are trialling this...

This would be brilliant to try and understand some of the weirder decisions we've had to endure from certain French refs.

Saw a bit of it last Friday being used by the legend that is Steve Walsh quite novel really. Not quite sure how the lens is angled but it does seem to be very close to what you would expect to be the ref's eye line. It does show how quickly things happen.

The one sky trialled in the premiership was chest mounted, and thus useless as it was mostly pointing in the wrong directions.
Fox had it mounted to the left of the refs head, so it followed whatever the ref looked at, and was able to pick up the conversations better.

Fair play to the refs for agreeing to wear such a device. Not only because the camera picks up everything they do but also imagine landing on that camera into the dirt. twould possibly fracture the skull, eye socket or break a jaw, damage an ear. etc etc.
The axe that cuts the tree can easily forget, but the tree thats been cut will not forget.

It is surely a sign of the confidence the refs have in their abilities to get so many decisions right that they would agree to this camera which I think is great. Next step will be to turn off the idiot commentators and let us listen to the ref microphone by itself. Think this story was posted on the ref appreciation thread the other day BTW.

Fascinating. Video analysts will be looking for pay rises with this.

I think this tool could make them unnecessary.
