He is still running off a pound higher than his Irish mark.

Is it just a simple case of the Irish horses being a fair bit better than the English horses at the moment which would justify a higher mark as they're against horses inferior to those they'd face at home?

As a general rule it is a lower standard of racing in the UK. Small fields and horses rated higher than they should be. There are plenty of Irish trained horses that haven't a hope of ever winning a race in Ireland but can win plenty in the UK.

There is too much racing in the UK. It could be argued that there is almost too little in Ireland, but Ireland is in a much better place, as a lean operation, than the UK with too many courses and not enough horses to fill them.

As usual with problems in Britain it is a lot easier for the administrators to blame someone else rather than take the hard decisions to properly reform their institution. Pinching a load of horses from Ireland to be trained in the UK is a short term solution to the shortage of horses which is forcing so many UK trainers out of business. If owners think their horses are going to get a more lenient handicap mark if they are trained in the UK they will move their horses accordingly.

By the standard of some of the other marks received by Elliott's horses, that one's not too bad. He's also extremely happy with the handicap mark that Tombstone has received. Looks like he'll be routed to the County Hurdle now rather than supplemented for the Champion Hurdle.

Had a walk around the racecourse this morning and it is very soggy. Seems to be a fair bit of rain in the forecast for the rest of the week so I would think soft ground must be a certainty. Still no notes. I will make some enquiries.

                  Some quality notes in there:

Says Yanworth won’t beat the ambulance home, ran like a piebald the last day.

Limini not supplemented for the Champion Hurdle, Vroum Vroum still left in. Both still left in the Mare's Hurdle at the six-day declaration stage.

And no Yorkhill supplemented for the CH but left in the Arkle.

These preview nights are some load of rubbish.

VVM going for the champion. Has been working all over Limini for the last few weeks. Blood was wrong last time.

Melon im told is a massive price and there isnt a chance of Ruby riding Bunk Off Early. NTD yard are sick so how anyone could back Ballyandy is beyond me.

It was a very funny (Luke Harvey) and an entertaining night. You take what you want from it, I really enjoyed it and just posted the panels' comments. I normally have taken one snippet over the last few years and it has worked (so far), like when Dickie Johnson told us that Fingal Bay would win the Pertemps (only just)... anyway it was fun.

Mick Fitz was very matter of fact about Consul de Thaix winning the Coral Cup, I like Tombstone myself in that race.

VVM and Limini both declared for the Mares' Hurdle. Ruby rides Limini, Townend on VVM.
