“Well done, Paul – that was some performance by Munster. A famous victory!”
    “It was unreal!”
“and what about those wonderful supporters, Paul – what have you got to say about them?”
    “they were unreal!”
“Well congratulations Paul – you’ve been voted man of the match today. How does that feel?”

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali has Irish roots, according to researchers.

Ali is thought to have descended from an Irishman who emigrated to the United States in the 1860s.

Genealogists have unearthed evidence that an Abe Grady settled in Kentucky and later married an African-American woman.

Ali was ultimately descended from that union.

"We would like to honor Ali as one of the heroes of the 20th century and invite him here," said Michael Corley, a local council leader in the small town of Ennis in the south west of Ireland.

Antoinette O'Brien, of the County Clare Heritage Centre, confirmed the findings.

"Through research being carried out for the Irish-language TV station TG4 on Ali, we established that Ali's great-great grandfather, John Grady, the father of Abe, rented a house and a small garden in Ennis in 1855," she said.

"There is no doubt that Abe Grady was Ali's great-grandfather."

But Ali's publicist Jill Siegel, speaking from New Jersey, said the legendary fighter already knew of his Irish ancestry.

He was a legend. Probably, the most courageous and intelligent boxer that ever lived. His rope a dope trick against Foreman had to be seen to be believed. Foreman at the time was the most fearsome fighter around, even more intimidating than Tyson in his prime. Boxers such as Smokin' Joe and Ken Norton shat themselves when confronted by Foreman, such was the fear he instilled and these were good boxers themselves. Foreman destroyed them in the first round. He actually lifted Joe Frazier off the ground with an uppercut. Ali who had not been having great success at this stage of his careerallowed Foreman to punch himself out, by feinting and letting Foreman punch him in the arms and body.He then dispatched him in the 7th or 8th round. Unbelievable stuff.
