His govt has shipped 20 approval points and gone negative in the space of a few days.

If he acts now, he looks weak. If he doesn't, he looks weak.

He's now almost at a point where he needs a "further revelation" that negates his stance to date. Cummings isn't going to go of his own free will.

Which is surprising, because if you look at Patel and Williamson the exile wouldn't have been permanent. Patel was secretary for international development and caught having secret meetings with the Israeli government to discuss how to channel aid funding to them. Williamson was a Secretary of State for Defence who was sacked by May for leaking information from a National Security Council meeting. He's not even been investigated formally.

Both now back in the Cabinet.

Cumming's would have gone off to a think tank somewhere, propped up by donor funding, and he'd have come back in in about a year, and most people in the country still wouldn't have known who he is.

    It's astounding really.
He can't do a Trump, pretend it's a witch hunt and a hoax because that won't wash in the UK which is (slightly) more mature society than the US. So only has 1 option. Cummings has to pretend he's resigning to protect the PM from distraction. Be a miracle if Cummings can weather the attacks. It's up to Cummings to face reality.

He's got warmth and boyish charm but he's made a bolliqs of this. The 1st rule of PR is......if you make a serious mistake.......hold your hands up, apologise, promise never again and hope that's enough for most. They tried to do a Trump, but the UK is not America.

Campbell also wouldn't have had ministers like Gove going around embellishing the story under pressure.

One thing this whole episode has shown is that, having been given the easiest of career rides by the UK press, Johnson's set up is quite ill equipped to deal with a hostile press.

Great question from the vicar to Matt Hancock yesterday...…...will those who have been fined for illegal travel for childcare be refunded?
    Noone saw that one coming..

I doubt it Cummings has a lot of enemies, a cover up will out eventually also so it's usually security issues that get buried.

Vermin? Lowering yourself to Trump standards...I shouldn’t be surprised. I suppose you’d describe Thatcher as a ‘nasty’ woman too.
