Ireland votes in Sinn Fein and the Boris' reply is to put Trevelyan in charge of international development. At this rate we should be experiencing a Cromwellian invasion by Easter.

      Yep.

Does it literally mean taking your (walking) stick and heading down the road?

Thought this was better here than in the Corona thread. Just outlandish. Tory's have commissioned 10,000 ventilators from Dyson. He's never built them before and his design will need regulatory approval, which isn't guaranteed.

They've declined to take part in the EU commissioning drive which will have ventilators ready in two weeks.

They also have existing UK manufacturers saying they've been trying to discuss supplying and have been ignored.

              Outrageous ****housery.

Blatantly trying to show Britain is independent, but ventilators are not hair-dryers/vacuum cleaners.

For information, Medtronic, a medical device company, make about 50% of all ventilators used in ICUs worldwide from their site in Galway. Med devices have stringent requirements and checks and are CE marked because of their criticality.

So a few updates on this.

Firstly, they are still adamant that they will not go beyond the end of the year. The feeling is that with the world virtually shut down for the next 18 months anyway, this is as good a time as to push ahead - trade deal or not.

Second is the extraordinary attack on Johnson in the Sunday Times. There is definitely a push coming. Reports in various places that the ERG favour Patel, the Princess of Darkness, and others prefer Gove, the Prince of slime.

                  Interesting times!

Brutal attack on Boris and Hancock by the Times. If most of it is true then for all his bluster Boris is in trouble. Problem for the rest of us is that we are as well. One interesting part of the article is it's reference to the hugely damaging effects of Brexit preparation. The UK went from having one of the best prepared pandemic plans to one of the worst as all resources were focussed on preparing for a no deal Brexit. Another wonderful Brexit bonus. If I'm still around to see it I hope Boris gets his hugely deserved boot up the ****

For The Times to break on a sitting Tory PM is very big, really. And they've gone for the jugular. Though it's hard to credit their stance of amazement that the idle, feckless, amoral ambition engine that's been repeatedly sacked for lying, won't say how many kids he has, blew 50m quid on a bridge that never happened and transparently leveraged Brexit for his own ends turns out to be a wrong 'un.

If Gove ends up in the drivers seat, the best hope for the population of the UK is mass evacuation to the Isle of Man.

More importantly, what's the story behind the story? Is Murdoch happy to see his useful idiot be put to pasture? Why now?

Odds on that Johnson will be told soon that he has lost the party, better off calling it a day with the excuse of "seeing a new life after such a close call" - plus a child on the way etc.

                        Bloodless coup incoming .....

Rumbling on Westminster Twitter seems to be that the Barclay Brothers are still batting for Boris, but Murdoch is backing Gove. Of course, that could all be deliberate misinformation as well.

It would be very interesting to know what's really driving it. Sunak's new found Keynesianism? Gove's raw ambition? Some worry that Boris is a liability despite his ratings?

For any part of the Tory establishment to move on him now is pretty astonishing. Maybe he's just so ****ing useless that even they are genuinely horrified? Gove did, after all, previously launch a kamikaze attack on him to prevent him beating May.

Backlash for BoJo and Cummings going down the herd immunity path initially?
