Well this would make life a lot easier for everyone...
In the short term. But we would then have about 10 years of arguing over whether the backstop could removed on the basis of border technology.

    Bit of a nightmare.

As this is sort of now the default UK politics thread....Gavin Williamson???? How in the name of all that is ****ing holy is this Government still in power?

"We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven into an age of unreason if we dig deep into our history and remember we are not descended from fearful men" Edward R Murrow

"Little by little, we have been brought into the present condition in which we are able neither to tolerate the evils from which we suffer, nor the remedies we need to cure them." - Livy

The parliament of UK is the first one that declared a "climatic and ecological emergency"... WTF are they leaving EU when this point would make them leaders in the domain and would maybe move the lines on the continent?!!!!!!!
"To be energetic and self-sufficing is to be happy; but while one desire remains in the heart happiness may not come there. For to desire is to be incomplete: it is the badge of dependence, the signal of unhappiness, and to be freed from that is to be freed from every fetter that can possibly be forged." (James Stephens, Deirdre)

I think Nicola Sturgeon beat them to the punch by a couple of days, but it's a good step. Unfortunately they're simultaneously doing **** all about it.

Despite the clucter**** that is Labour party stance on Brexit, and the infighting between various remain parties and movements, broadly speaking remain candidates were very successful in local elections yesterday.

I'm convinced that a referendum now on EU membership would be 60% plus remain.

The Brexit Party didn't put up any candidates. So the local elections are not a reliable indicator of backing for remain. There may be a majority for remain, but it's not inferrable from the results.

UKIP did though and they were routed.

And Farage will be in the EP elections, if they happen. The Brexit party is a different matter though. I can tell you, every Leaver I have spoken to is voting for Farage, the unanimity is astonishing. The local elections give no indication of the support for Remain, Brexit voters boycotted in droves. The amazing result from last night is Labour’s failure to exploit the lamest duck of a national leader in the history of the world ever. We all know May’s days are numbered but can Corbyn really continue after yesterday?

Fingers crossed Watson or Stamer makes a move soon. JC has to go - and bring Milne with him.

Not sure one can say it gave no indication in respect of the support for Remain. Lib Dem’s and the greens who are the most pro EU parties made impressive gains, Tories massively punished and Labour are down.

The numbers of spoilt ballot papers filtering through are fairly astonishing. Whether anyone will release the percentages will be interesting. Turnout will be another interesting statistic.

If Corbyn goes there would be a Labour government by Christmas, imho, aided and abetted by the Remain element of the Tories. For a man as mild mannered, kind and decent as Tony Robinson to have left the Labour Party is beyond sad. The country is in a very dangerous place.
