The Syrian Civil War Must Be Stopped Now!

Could somebody point to anything positive that has come out of four-and-a-half years long unrelenting carnage and destruction in the Syrian Civil War?

Absolutely nothing, I’ll wager is your thought.

Now look at the negative consequences of this Gulf state inspired insurrection ironically entitled ‘the Arab Spring’.

Syria, a country of 22 million people, a country of well-educated and cultured people, are getting to the point of complete and utter despair and exhaustion. The Syrian nation has by now been as savagely eviscerated as the German nation was by the end of WWII. This complete despair was inevitable and is evidenced by the sheer scale of refugees arriving in Europe now in 2015.

After four years of hell, a nation has lost hope – entirely.

Right now the Syrian people can see no end. There are too many factions, al-Nusra, Daesh, ‘The Army of Conquest’, FSA, etc. The large number of foreign mercenaries present amongst most of the factions further complicates this.

The only viable solution is to force an end to it. Not in a years time but in three months.

For this to happen, Russia, the US, China, Britain, France and Iran need to sign-up to a common strategy.

    That strategy involves the following:-

    1. The ending of all financial inflows to ALL Syrian rebels. America and Europe need to squeeze the Gulf monarchies/Mafiosi’s balls to the extent that they turn the money tap off.

    2. The agreement that Assad is part of the solution and must be negotiated with.

    3. The creation of a United Nations sanctioned force that would include Russian, Egyptian, Iranian and perhaps German armed forces to act as peace enforcers.

    4. Offer ‘moderate’ opposition attractive terms, to get them to talks.

    5. Go after those who will inevitably refuse the new reality, be they Da’esh or al-Nusra or both. They, it seems, may have to be utterly crushed.

Where there’s a will, there is a way. But is there the will?

I agree that the war in Syria has to be stopped but I can't see how you get all the players around the table to achieve it. Nothing will happen now until Obama is gone, fingers crossed one of the maniacs doesn't take over from him.

Obama has the correct strategy here, there is no reason to put US troops in the middle of a Shia/Sunni civil war.

I am not saying he necessarily should, but he should be looking to play hard ball with Saudi and the gulf states.

Of course there is nothing positive that has came out of it but just turning the financial tap off wont change much. I agree Assad has to be part of whatever is a solution but how do you get all of the players to the table?

It's already happening OL. A Chinese aircraft carrier docked today in Syria. The Russians are bringing in their marines and air force.

Russia and China are making a statement.

France have just launched air strikes. Maybe the dreadful death of that brave man in Palmyra is bringing the world to it's senses. Assad is a fecking nasty piece of work but ISIL are a blight on the face of the earth.
