        Consider the coast.
Ballyconnell and Ellen's Pub in particular, est 350 years or so ago.

Do you surf? Bundoran, Strandhill or Easkey are close enough, nice for a walk too

And and and Knocknarea is a handy enough walk on a clear day and Ben Bulb a bit more strugglesome but feckin majestic and there's an old style house on your left on the way into the city from Rosses Point, think it's O'Connells, across from the river and Ewings of Rosses Point is a nice house for a pint and theres a class of a pool in the atlantic for to swim in if your brave and if the weathers fine out with ye to Coney Island but The Metal Man is, I believe, gone. Glencar too.
            Enjoy

                    Under bare Ben Bulben’s head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
                    An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross.
                    No marble, no conventional phrase;
On limestone quarried near the spot
By his command these words are cut:
                    Cast a cold eye
                    On life, on death.
                    Horseman, pass by!

we will be going to see Yeats grave anyway, it seems like there's plenty to be a-doing

Dogging was a curveball alright Chippy!

Rosses point,Lissadell,Ben Bulben. But if heading towards Sligo, make a stop off in Boyle ,Roscommon and head for lough Key ,loved that place as a younger chap.on a nice day, beautiful spot.

Bundoran would be a good shout as it is a short drive north, like sewa said. Foodwise go to Henrys if taking that road, well worth it,nice carvery.

Fathers side of my family hails from Sligo, spent a lot of time up there.

As an odd suggestion, take in a match in the showgrounds ,mad but passionate bunch.

The only problem there is you'll find yourself distracted by the view of Ben Bulben from the main stand!

There's a number of good pubs. Hargadons on O'Connell St. is an old style pub that often has decent music. Shoot the Crows on Castle Street is another. Shenanigans on Bridge St is a Student bar but Fureys next door is good.
