            So far:

            Main points:
            - Michael Noonan announced tax measures
            - Home renovation tax incentive scheme to be introduced
            - Corporation tax rate remains at 12.5%
            - 10c increase on 20 cigarettes
            - 10c increase on pint of beer, 50c on 75cl bottle of wine
            - New Start Your Own Business scheme
            - No increase in pupil-teacher ratio in free schools
            - 9% VAT rate in tourism sector to continue
            - 13.5 & 23% VAT rates unchanged.

                    50c on a bottle of wine, to be expected I suppose given it was a euro last time out but this is making wine very, very expensive by European standards. Thought they might have targetted off license beer and left pints alone to try encourage people to drink less at home. I reckon tins / bottles of beer could be just about the only thing that are cheaper now than twenty years ago?

                      McGrath is right. Taking dough off single mothers and the deceased is poor form.
                      I'm hearing sneaky reductions in welfare via reduction in rent allowance is in the small print.

                              Apparently they are going to save in excess of €100 million from a review of medical card entitlemets apart from what they save on taking medical cards of more of the over 70's.
