    Another Toyota D4D engine question

I have a 2010 1.4 D4D toyota that was overdue a service and oil change. Had been about 17000km since its last change. Looks like it used about 0.75litre to 1litre of oil during this time culminating in a brief 'oil low' light a few days before it was serviced.

Is this normal for D4D engines from peoples experiences? There seems to be some mention of it online but just wondering if anyone here has experienced it. Ive always driven petrols up until now

    thanks

It's not normal. It's heavy oil usage too.

How far overdue was the service? Modern diesel engines do not take at all kindly to being neglected.

The guy in the garage who seems pretty savvy says he would change the oil in D4D engines once every 10,000km, so if this was the case it was 7000km overdue an oil change.
He reckoned D4d's burned oil generally and if they didnt burn oil it would be unusual?

It was fully synthetic oil, he advised using semi synthetic of the same grade to reduce it
