Don't want to hijack the thread, but blaming video games for this type of attrocity is just laziness. The games that do objectify women are over 18 for a reason, if you allow your child to play with them its your fault, not the childs nor society.
On the internet, you can be anything you want. It always amazes me why so many people choose to be stupid.

Ah right. It's ok to objectify women once you're an adult. Ok.

Cleveland kidnap accused Castro to plead innocent - lawyers The US man accused of imprisoning three women for about a decade in his house in Ohio will plead not guilty to all charges, his lawyers say.
Ariel Castro, aged 52, is charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape.
The women were abducted at different times and held in Mr Castro's house in Cleveland. One of them escaped earlier this month and raised the alarm.
"He's not a monster and he shouldn't be demonised," said lawyer Jaye Schlachet.
Speaking to the AFP news agency, he added that details of Mr Castro's innocence "will be disclosed as the case progresses".
Craig Weintraub, another defence lawyer, told WKYC-TV that his client "loves dearly'' the child he fathered with 27-year-old Amanda Berry - one of the three alleged kidnap victims.
The other women freed from Mr Castro's house were Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32.
Prosecutors in Ohio have said they also plan to seek aggravated murder charges that could carry the death penalty.
The charges relate to alleged forced miscarriages suffered by one victim

Lawyer was conplaining about him being in a cell with a bed and toilet, talked to him for 3 hours and seem to be a very nice guy .these lawyers can say anything and be protected by there clients .its a disgrace that that this pig and Castro are giving airtime

I don't think that anyone is blaming them in these instances - just commenting that, like a lot of our mainstream culture, they have a long way to go in a lot of cases to improve their depiction of women (and the behavior of men toward them). They still strike me as entirely derivative though, so it will take a while. Most of the big licenses are still trading on cinema tropes, whether it's Sci Fi, Westerns, Gangsters or whatever.

He's entitled to a defence, and his lawyer is entitled to represent him robustly. It's the job of the law to punish him when and if he's found guilty (which there seems little doubt he will be).

I wouldn't be to sure about that , look at the case in Florida 2 years ago ,mother who never reported her child missing for 10months ,she got away with murder. It's not who's right or wrong, it's who has the best argument. These lawyers are protect by client /lawyer privileges .there's no accountably for lawyers actions I wonder why

This has been taking off on Twitter and Facebook for the past few days. http://www.womenactionmedia.org/facebookaction/

Basically people were complaining to Facebook about "jokes" with images of abused and raped woman. Facebook ignored the complaints and said that it doesn't violate their policies so they're free to stay. Not being satisfied with the response a group of different organisations are started a campaign to show businesses that their ads were coming up on Facebook pages making light of and advocating abuse and rape.

There are a number of business who responded positively and said they are contacting Facebook about problems, a number of businesses are ignoring it and a few are going so far as to delete the comments telling them this is happening.

F**king hell, is that the sort of thing that passes for humour these days?? I despair for our society sometimes.

One observation though is that the main pic appears to be an (atrocious) attempt at humour rather than an ad - looks like the ad itself is simply a clickable link in the bar down the right, along with a number of others.
                        Tis but a scratch.

Yeah, the "joke" isn't doves ad. Dove just advertise on the page it's on. Facebook say the ad is based on the browsers interests but it still serves up ads for those companies when the "humour" of the page they're advertising on is about raping and assaulting people. Facebook were contacted repeatedly about this types of pages and refused to do anything about them. Instead people are contacting the companies who ads are on those pages.

The "lad "culture of the nineties, which was epitomised by magazines like Nuts and Loaded, seems to have been succeeded by something entirely darker.

Online especially, people seem comfortable joking about rape and domestic violence in a way that I don't remember being the case a few years ago. There's been a marked growth in violent, degrading pornography and the rest of our culture is becoming increasingly "pornified". Lots of what is now mainstream music remains very sexist. The rape case where the two American students were convicted was shocking.

I'd say that, overall, it feels like we've gone backwards in the last ten years in terms of attitudes to women.
I don't think it is as easy as just saying this is men against women level of issue. We've just gone backwards full stop. Attitudes by everyone to everyone are appalling. Read this about how some idiot knocked a cyclist flying into a hedge and drove off leaving them there and what they tweeted. It would be easy to say that's an extreme, a one off, but it isn't. That is the society we live in, our problems are way beyond trying to turn this into simple classifications. It is about people generally having limited respect for anyone else, no thought for their own actions and most of all limited if any concept of controlling their own behaviour. On a regular basis I see people texting or phoning while driving dangerously and people in big vehicles quite literally bullying others off the road. That's not the odd time, that has become the standard on the roads. That lack of caring for anyone else is a standard behaviour among "normal" people. People confuse not thinking with not meaning to do something and just don't think. We live in a society that no longer cares about self control and just tuts and walks away when it sees unacceptable behaviour. Just throwing your litter on the pavements, letting your dog foul anywhere and leaving it, screaming and swearing in the middle of the street are the norm not the extreme any more. When that level of behaviour is the norm then the extreme just ramps up several levels from what it used to be.

And scum fear nothing and no one, why would they? When you take a situation like that and add in things like someone telling them white girls are there to be abused or goading them that they have to deal with someone who "dissed" them then this is where it gets to. We have entire generations growing up believing that stabbing, shooting, beating and abusing others are the normal way to behave. That goes way beyond misogyny and video games, that is a warped society where, oddly considering how much the word is used, the one thing people just don't get is respect for others.

This site asks a very pertinent question about the dangerous driving incident, relevant to our problems generally. "Why is it socially-acceptable to admit to such a crime as though it wasn’t a crime?" Whilst in this one case, possibly, there's a backlash what real punishment will she face and how many get away with this kind of callous behaviour. As I say, she clearly believed basically smashing someone off the road because they were in her way and boasting about it is acceptable behaviour and sadly I think that mentality is not limited to just this one retard.

I was flicking through the news channels last night.Fox was hilarious. They had a lad on who had worked out that Castro saved the Fed Government $780k by hanging himself and had a list of who should be handed nooses including the Muslim Soldier who killed a number of colleagues on an army base.

How do they get away with that?
