It's amazing how quick the troughs can be filled €16,000 on top of a salary of over 124,000. Disgusting

More on this according to Donohoe the " decision to top up their earnings was to ensure that ministers of state who are carrying out the same work are paid the same." I wonder what front line workers such as nurses who are standing next to a colleague who because they qualified a year before them is earning circa 20% more for doing the same job make of that statement by the minister.

Ive always felt that the getting paid angle goes against the idea of public service

True enough, Public Servants should work for free. The honour and glory should be sufficient reward.

Not really what I was going for.

remuneration should not be the motive for entering public life

10% paycut announced for Taoiseach and all Cabinet members, backdated to the formation of the government, and they won't be taking they 2% pay rise that's due in October.

180k is not an excessive salary for a prime minister. Lower than NZ, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland. A bit higher than Netherlands, Finland. And they are all the main points of comparison in terms of size, global influence, GDP etc. Portugal is the only comparable country where the PM is being paid substantially less, but I in purchasing power terms its still probably in the same ball park.

Yeah but they made gob****es of themselves and the optics are truly awful. Getting a raise when the economy is in true peril us not a good look.

Whether it’s true or not this government will be remembered as “first order of business let’s feather the nests”

We're a month in. It's a bit early to say what this government will be remembered for. If the economy recovers well out of the virus, nobody will remember this. If it goes pear shaped, then this will be the least of their worries.
