Fine gael briefing that Sinn Fein's engagement with the public meetings are 'dangerous trump style rallies'

Will 5th count leo varadkar be raising his disgust of trumps rallies directly with trump himself and why are fine gael slagging off one of this country's most powerful allies?

    Comment

Political strategy (both FG and FF) is to brand SF as army council run/undemocratic criminals. It's a fight for political survival. Could backfire given public disillusionment with FF/FG.

We live in a PR:STV democracy. Getting elected on the 10th count is just as legitimate as getting elected on the first count with a large surplus. The fact is that in most constituencies FG and FF got more votes than SF, but unlike SF, ran multiple candidates so split their vote. If SF had ran multiple candidates in each constituency they wouldn't have topped the poll in anywhere near as many of them.

This BS narrative of poll toppers having more legitimate seats than those who got elected in subsequent counts needs to stop.

The fact is SF got 24.5% 1st preference votes
          2.3% more than FF
          and 3.6% more than FG

No amount of spin or muddying waters changes that

And the corollary is just as factual non SF got 75.5 %
What is your point ? FF FG dont want to go in to power with SF - this was flagged well in advance of election
Deal with it. They are under no obligation to do any deal.

If your facts have any meaning - then let SF use their votes in the Dail and see how far it gets them.

And 24.5% of the vote is not a mandate for government. In fact it's not even half of a mandate for government.
And as we have a PR:STV system of electing our TDs with multiple seat constituencies, the amount of first preferences isn't actually as important as you believe it is.

Bizarre argument to be having one way or another. If Sinn Fein can get enough TDs onside to agree a programme for government and vote for McDonald as Taoiseach then they will have a mandate as lead party, subject to what they've had to buy the junior Government members off with (a second IFSC in Kilgarvan).

Not sure anyone is claiming SF have a divine right to form a Government. That's just a straw man. If anything I would say their route to forming a Government is virtually non-existent.

That is almost exactly the narrative that they are trying to push.

The facts are that both FF and FG made election promises not to form a government with SF and received a combined 43% of the first preference vote and 45% of the seats and to that Labour's vote, plenty of Independents and about half the Green vote that would abandon them the minute they formed a SF and it is clear than well over 50% of the eletorate want SF nowhere near government. Yet in spite of all that SF are trying to assert that somehow other parties sticking to the manifesto pledges is somehow undemocratic.

Incredible how varadkar as sitting taoiseach basically conceded the election a week before the vote when he applied for an EU job in national papers..

Varadkar doesnt be long talking to Sinn Fein and treating ireland as a 32 county entity when he needs help, what a hypocrite..

"Mr Varadkar and Mr Harris earlier held a conference call with their counterparts in Northern Ireland on Saturday as the unidentified woman in Northern Ireland who recently came home from Italy and was suspected of being infected with the Covid-19 or new coronavirus, had her case confirmed.

Mr Varadkar and Mr Harris were joined on the call by Ireland’s deputy chief medical officer, Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster, Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill, health minister Robin Swann, and the Northern Ireland chief medical officer, the Government said in a statement."

The latest Sunday Times poll is massive bad news for FFG

The people are clearly letting Mehole know that they want SF as part of the government when you look at the surge in support for them.

So the acting Taoiseach & Minister for Health have a conference call with their NI counterparts on an urgent issue of public health that affects both the ROI & NI, and the well being, health & economy of the nation.

                                And you consider this hypocrisy..?..

Your idiotic take on this says way more about you, than them imho...
