Anti-English rugby ad held to be racist

<DIV =LeadPara>BOOKMAKERS Paddy Power scored an own goal with their ad in national newspapers which ran before the historic rugby clash at Croke Park between England and Ireland. </DIV>
<DIV =LeadPara>The Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland (ASAI) upheld two complaints about the ad including one that it could incite racism. The ad which depicted a number of paramedical staff carrying a player togged out in the English colours off the field. </DIV>
<DIV =TailParas>The tag line to the ad, "Coming for to carry you home" was a clear reference to the English rugby team's unofficial anthem "Swing low sweet chariot" and could incite racism and prompted violence as opposed to winning through excellence, said one person who complained. </DIV>
<DIV =TailParas>Another complainant told the ASAI that the ad appeared to gloat on the possibility of injury. </DIV>
<DIV =TailParas>Advertising agency Cawley Nea said it intended to reflect robust banter around any sporting event between Ireland and England. </DIV>

Didn't Brains do something about Wilkinson in a plaster cast the year of the grand slam?

I know it seems PC craziness, but is it just that it seems more acceptable to make jokes like that about certain countries? If it had been a play on the national anthem of Bangladesh before the cricket World Cup, would everybody see it as just a bit of harmless fun? Problem is, it's got to be the same rule for everybody...

..........and no sense of humour.

I don't think Paddy Power will be too upset though. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Can no-one take a joke anymore?
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

Every plan I have is the best plan in the room. Everybody get quiet and listen to it, and everybody will win

pity the english werent a bit more pc the last time they were in croker but one. incitement to violence?.....ffs no incitement necessary for english violence

i can guarantee that the complainants wouldnt have been english though-they can take a joke about themselves and would have seen the ad as a challenge rather than an insult

So then, a picture of a prone Irish player under the title; "Ireland's Crawl" would've had everyone here sniggering at the humour of an English ad agency? Pull the other one
