repechage isnt in spring its next summer. We'll have the full season of world series played before it but wouldn't be so sure we'll have overtaken those sides in that time

Good result anyway. The challenge is still open with the last tournamet in July next year, and, imho, real good chances. After all, France is still some details above Ireland, Samoa are not unbeatable (Expecting Australia would win the Oceania tournament), the next World Series will give the oportunity to progress further and to gain more experience. Don't forget where Ireland Sevens was three years ago...
UK= England+ the best Scots (Wales is not a huge power in Sevens)... Will be a strong contender again in Tokyo.
Yeah, winning this was always gonna be a bit of a long shot, given the presence of England and France playing at home. Big ask to beat both.

We’ll have a good shot in the repechage. Looking forward to seeing how we develop in the World Series in the meantime.

I guess it's just the way it is . . . and I'll be fine with it as long as Ireland qualify too :-)
the hosts automatically qualifying does make sense. I dont see why there should be an issue with this and why should you treat Olympics different from a world cup?

The Mens team finished 3rd beating Portugal 26-10 in 3/4 game. They and France who lost in the final will get a 2nd chance of getting to Tokyo in the repechage tournament next year.

The Womens team were beaten 17-7 in last 8 by England who won both competitions.

The French will have had an extra hours rest as they played in the 1st QF and we were in the last QF

The game against Spain was sincerely bad. We slept in the first half, were much better and engaged in the second, but once more time, we chose the false direction as we we had the match ball.
Anyway, England or France, even at home, in the semi, that's six of one and half a dozen for the other.
