    'Emerging Ireland Squad'

An 'Emerging Ireland' squad will take part in the inaugrial IRB Tbilisi Cup. Competing with the likes of SA Presidents XV, Georgia and Uruguay.

Is this squad gonna be used for young lads touted for international success? Youthful exposure for players like Jack McGrath, Luke McGrath, JJ etc......?

Think its a very good idea for youngster. I wouldn't want anyone over 25ish playing. Think will aid building leaders for the future

Squad will be very interesting considering in June there is the Lions tour, full irish team play in the US and the 20s will have their world cup. Will Luke McG go? He's under 20. Would it be better for him to go to that esp considering he was captain and so good during 6nations.

Oh i realize Luke is only u20 was just generalizing that would this be used to try out lads like him. So next season when he's outta 20s would he be involved like. John Cooney and JJ for Halfbacks with Noel Reid, Conway, Macken, Micheal Allen, Jordan Coughlan, Eoin Griffen across the backline. Looks like a super idea to expose guys to some level of test rugby, a great stepping stone

this sounds a bit like a successor to the churchill cup. the last time Ireland competed in that we won it, it was back in 2009 when there was a large irish contingent away with the Lions and an ireland squad on a north america tour (the one when Barry Murphy & Ian Dowling got their caps).
But that particular Churchill cup squad included players like: Niall Ronan, Chris Henry, Ian Keatley, Johnny Sexton, & Fergus McFadden.
I'm convinced that trip was when Keatley started to get trained out of his bouncy-bouncy pre-kick routine. Kidney opted to take charge of the "A" squad as the Churchill cup was right after the USA & Canada tour matches, he also brought Flannery & TOL along on the trip even though they were injured .. I still remember their notes written on napkins that they were holding up for the TV camera's slagging off each other. A lot of that squad gained valuable experience in the tournament & it's great to see the IRFU opting to join this new effort.

Dont think this would be the equivalent to the A's or the Churchill Cup teams. Think it should be used to look at guys just outta 20s or school (in cases similar to Henshaws). A Team of Jack McGrath, Niall Annett, Martin Moore, Ian Nagle, Mick Kearney, Paddy Butler, Dom Ryan, Jordi Murphy, John Cooney, JJ, Micheal Allen, Jordan Coughlan, Eoin Griffin, Andrew Conway and Noel Reid would be a good young side to look at. With lads like Jack O Connell, Duncan Casey, Tadgh Furlong, James Cronin, Dave Foley, Ben Marshall, Cathal Sheridan, Cathal Marsh, Andrew Boyle in the squad would be great to see

Chris Farrell, tall Ulster centre, real prospect IMHO.

Think he is too old now. Has his injury issues but a big lad.
