Good to see Scotland get a win..

By the time Ireland took the field against Scotland the championship was over from Ireland's point of view - this game was a dead as a dead thing what had been offically consigned to the mortuary.

This was the least tense match Ireland have played in many years - clearly with better players and outplaying Scotland the fact that we lost was pretty irrlelevant - and it was nice for the Scots to get another win(trying really hard not to be patronsising). Trying to pretend that before this game (as the Irish Times is doing) - that we had any chance of overturning England's points difference is clearly a nonsense -or that the Ireland players thought they were playing for anything other than second.

Great atmosphere at Murrayfield and it was nice for a change to lose when the outcome meant Jack - Rog's indulging in a bit of GAA at the end only added a bit of humour. Only real regret for me was that Zebo wasnt playing as he would have had a hatful.

For me this game was about us having a good (overdue) look at our options at 10 and 12 for next year and we have learned that both debutants are up to the job provided the boy Paddy gets some practice in at his kicking. Kidney deserves praise for giving it a lash.

ps Madigan up for the French game to see what he can do- that is a game with at least something riding on it
given out shocking record against the French.
