Not exactly the same as 6N, but it happened a few years ago in MJL when Nenagh won all games and Bruff got more bonus points to equal Nenagh. Then it was decided on score difference. Has to be done to separate first and second, but the Nenagh camp were fairly dissappointed after winning every game. It also gave the local GAA oriented media a forum for criticising the silliness of rugby administration as to how a team which won all games winds up second. And how they did avail of it.

In the event of a tie in 6N score difference is the deciding factor and that could still happen. We should have been able to put a bit of daylight between us and others v Scotland instead of raising hares to divert from that failure.

Don't think it would work easily.

The 6n would have to change to a home / away competition so all teams have the same advantage. This means more games over the year and more chances of burn out ! This would also effect the running of the HC and like this year the French thinking off pulling out.We need the French and English teams in this competition to make it the great competition it is.The HC is one of the best competitions in the world why wreck it.

Personally i'd like to see the bonus point coming in to play in the 6nbut i don't think it is practical but would be good for the game.

I'm not actually suggesting the 6N should use bonus points, I just think it will be a nice statistic to cling to if we lose the thing on points difference on Saturday.

I actually don't think that's all that improbable - you could have a grand slam decider between a free-scoring team who has cruised to victory in every match against another who also demolished the opposition but just didn't manage to score more than three tries in putting them away. Both are obviously good teams, so there's no reason to think that the latter team couldn't win the decider but lose the championship because of bonus points.

It's not likely at the moment, but if we revert to the days when two teams dominate the rest then it becomes a possibility.

Yeah, not a huge fan of bonus points myself, just an artificial method of spicing things up when the game's result itself isn't that interesting.

As Hoof points out - if it means a Grand Slam winner mightn't win the championship, I'd rather we went without.

Table looks fine fom here. If it works in every other League, and the Tri-Nations. Gives an extra bite to the HEC Pool games in partiicular too, so why not extend it to the 6N.

You can only really do bonus points if you've got home and away games.

If the 6 Nations used bonus points...

...Ireland would be top of the table.

At least, that's my quick calculation based on the results to date. Unless I'm very much mistaken, if this were a Heineken Cup pool it would look like this:
