Oliver Jager.... anyone know this guy

The title is a bit misleading, but sounds like he's doing the right things over in NZ.....
He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

On track to be capped by the All-Blacks. He did a very good interview on OTB rugby a few weeks ago.

Is he? He is very much 2nd choice for Crusaders... right now saying he is on track to be an all-black is very optimistic.

Didn't Munster and more recently Ulster make inquiries about him?

He’s highly thought of down there from a few things I’ve read. So, he’s not going to be selected for them tomorrow, but if he continues on his current trajectory, he could be. “On the verge of” does seem a bit much though.

He's never been 1st choice for them.. granted he is still youngish for a TH prop at 25.... he will be doing incredibly to be an all-black. Can see him not progressing and moving back to IRE in a few years, if thats what he wanted to do lifestyle wise.

He went there at 17, Leinster wanted him to repeat his leaving and play another year of SCT and didn’t offer him an academy place, he was on the same SCT winning team as Gary Ringrose. He played against the Lions for the New Zealand Barbarians in 2017. He is a big man, John Hayes tall, which is very demanding on a tighthead. Looks a decent footballer, don’t think he’s quite there yet. In fairness a lot of the future New Zealand international noise is coming from the meeja, decent story, young lad backs himself and makes it against the odds and the system who overlooked him on the other side of the world. We’ve nicked a few NZ players over the years I get the sense a few journalists are hoping they nick one back. If he does make it fair play, hard thing to do at that age, ballsy move & not lacking in self belief.

With the quality in that country, if he makes it as an AB, just a handful of caps would be miraculous. I could see him being in contention for a place, on the verge of getting picked, and then calling the IRFU and asking about a possible return to the country with an eye towards getting capped in green. lets face it, if you're IQ and about to get capped for the All Blacks, you'd at least be seriously in the mix for Ireland as soon as you set foot in the country.
