The unions can't afford to miss out on the TV money which is required based on the amount of money lost over the last few months

As it's a fairly barefaced money raising activity I doubt it- as you say, the chance to try out some new players, and as someone said above another crack at Japan might be interesting. In terms of the latter, if the tournament structure is as rumoured, that would only happen if Japan do spectacularly well, or we do very badly. I think I'd be happy to come if our players come through it all without injury.

Yep, your right the main interest for fans will be avoiding injuries. Cant see broadcaster paying much for such a nonsense tournament - and it may have socially distancing fans to add to the excitement... not.

Are you mad? Broadcasters are desperate for any live sport. They'll snap this up no problem.

Yes, agree with that, it’s schedule filling - and presumably because it’s not the AIs isn’t covered by existing deal

Indeed, the countries have existing tv deals for the Autumn Internationals, this tournament will be open to all to bid on.

That was what I was thinking- although then I wondered whether with the AIs being cancelled (presuming the 6N fixtures are ‘owed’)- these fixtures just slit into existing deal. I’ll still be glued to the TV anyway..

The Broadcasters would be mad - if they dont get some guarantee on 1st choice players being played. By then the 6Nations rump will have taken place the Leagues will be up an running and cant see much public interest in a funny one-off tournament without the best players.

Does the HCup start a few weeks later?

Can see players (hopefull) developing mystery short term injuries and having to miss out on the funny tournament.

The Rugby Championship is apparently due to be held between Nov 7 - Dec 12 in New Zealand so could clash with start of Heineken Cup (if Dec 12th start date of the latter is accurate)

Not if they're getting paid per match right after taking pay cuts. These guys are going to be trying to make up for every last pound or euro they lost due tot he lockdown.

                              Fair point.

Best option would be to play an then limp off with a mystery illness after a few mins...

Maybe if they were NBA players, that league is notorious for guys milking injuries while still getting paid big money. Rugby players know they'd never live it down if they pulled a stunt like that and were found out.
