Setanta to show 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups

Irish sports broadcaster Setanta Sports Ireland today secured a contract to show live coverage of all matches from the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups.

Setanta Sports will be the only place where Irish rugby fans can see live, full match coverage of all 48 games from the 2007 and 2011 tournaments, according to the broadcaster.

Coverage of the 2007 Rugby World Cup will begin on Setanta Sports on September 7, when host nation France face Argentina at the St Denis Stadium.

Daire O’Brien will lead the studio discussion throughout the competition, with a special focus on Ireland’s campaign. Setanta Sports rugby ambassador Paul O’Connell will also feature throughout the coverage.

“We are delighted to sign this contract today and secure the rights for the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups,” said Setanta Sports chief executive Niall Cogley.

“This represents the next phase in our growth as a Sports Broadcaster and adds to our impressive collection of live sports rights.

“Rugby is growing in popularity and we are looking forward to bringing top quality coverage of this world event to Irish sports fans.”

No UK broadcaster as far as I know. I am resigned to getting it in September although it may mean less time in the pub .

It's a bit pricey but there's plenty of good stuff on it.

I wonder did RTÉ even bother to bid against the Cogleys for it?

Mark Robson...almost makes that tool Ryle Nugent bearable.

Will Sky Sports have the RWC?

At least you can sign up for that for a month or 2 and then sign off again,

I think Nugent is grand. Who has the ball what was the penalty for, thats all I need to know from a commentator.

none of the florid colour reorting any hyperbole most of the other RTE reportes are prone to.

Correct re ITV, though I would suggest putting the gogglebox on mute and getting commentary from the wireless if you are watching ITV's coverage.

in typical itv style they'll probably nick the BBC commentary teams anyway.
