It’s the fracturing of the preparations (where time together is at a premium) by splitting the squad and coaches as much as two long haul flights to Chicago to play an average European team.

Im not sure flying to Chicago, staying in a really nice hotel and playing against an average side is what constitutes taking players out of their comfort zone, this is probably exactly what their comfort zone is, travelling and playing a match, it’s what they have been doing for years now, only now a lot of them are probably in first class and it’s gonna be a fine 5 star hotel.

People often talk about how important the fixtures are in November, big tests against SH teams, all
im saying is that playing an average European team in Chicago is hardly ideal preparation for the following two games, and would want to be worth a lot of coin because it’s clearly not the best way to prepare.

Fracturing of the preparations is taking them (players and management) out of their comfort zone, as is dealing with the timezone change, the shortened preparation time, the unfamiliar training facilities, Schmidt not being with them for some of the time etc. That's all good prep for the kind of stuff they'll have to deal with at the RWC. They might be flying first class and staying in a nice hotel but it's a lot more disruptive than being in their routine in Carton House for two weeks.

This isn't about winning the AIs, it's about preparing for the RWC.

        Sure.
        Your right.
It’s ideal to have the majority of your first team on one continent and the coaching staff on another because that’s the best way to prepare. The limited amount of time that everyone has to work together is obviosuly best spent by limiting it further, and adding a days travel and jet lag into the mix will help as well. Maybe we should have played all 4 games in different continents, because this is about preparing for a WC, not money, this has nothing to do with money.

Incredible that Ireland can put out a second team of such strength.

Very very strong selection then you think about the lads not in Chicago and even the guys not in the setup!!

This will be an entertaining game

That’s it Larry, stick to your guns. This Italian game is a travesty! We’re doomed!

Not much lineout prowess but a beefy pack and a back line that looks very exciting. I think this is good prep for a WC and good for the union to fill the coffers, both positives and if it doesn’t work out as a spectacle then they don’t have to repeat it.

Probably next year or the year after next they will take some stopping"

It’s also a very young team- with a few exceptions, these guys should be around for the next WC-
