It's boiling over now..! Samoa have a man sent off for punching Broussouw off the ball and 2 mins later Smit, who was just on as a sub, gets binned for deliberate knock on

      Great punch up!

15 Samoa is swinging out of SA jersey(could not see who) so SA thumps him time and time again to get him off. 6-7 times? So when 15 does let go and get up just decks the SA fella!! Straight red. I am watching a fuzzy stream so could not judge how much was handbag or real hit. then 1 minute later Jon smit given yellow for smacking a ball down .deserved an oscar for his shocekd face.

Samoa could have had that game. All over 13-5. A shook looking SA too.

They'll be well sore after that. Habana went off injured too I believe...

Great match. One of the best I've seen all world cup.

If Samoa played with less mistakes they'd have beaten the Suit Efrikins.

Although I think Nigel Ownes messed up the call with the Samoan 14 playing on because he wasn't held. If he'd have been let go he was in for a try.

The big killer is that the Samoans don't even get the bonus point. Calmer heads were needed.

That was epic. Really thought Samoa deserved more from that and they really put it up to SA - have to feel for them. Place-kicking the difference that killed their hopes of any further progress - if the conversion had gone over then they might still have hope of going further. Have to say that I'm glad we have been able to avoid them this tournament.

some truely dreadful refereeing in that game. SA had a deliberate tactic of slapping down the ball and it took until Smit came on after 70 minutes before ref did anything about it. Fair play to Samoa they played some good stuff

Just saw the hightlights of what I missed... Samoa got rode for that knock-on on the SA line, Petersen should have been binned for interfering with the ball as he was off his feet, bad call from Owens

(He's retired from top-level refereeing and is described as a TMO specialist - rather like Nigel *hitehouse, presumably.)

Let's just say he was retired from on-field refereeing. (He was terrible.) Bit of a sensitive issue though, as he was one of the only non-white refs in the top division at the time, so they couldn't give him the chop completely without kicking up a political sh1tstorm.

What a fantastic game of rugby, it had everything, great rugby, running and hits that you could hardly keep up with, drama, yellow and red cards, a whiff of controversy, and a fine flourish at the finish.

Pity Samoa didn't wheel back the ball for a drop goal at the death, I believe getting one could have been significant for them. I thought Nigel Owens had a really fine game, but I thought he let the saffers benefit from lazy runners once to often and to me Pieterson looked like he scragged the scrum half when he was part of the ruck on the line with about 12 to play, if he did, then it was a defo yellow card for him, and/or a penalty try to Samoa- now that would've thrown the cat among the pigeons!! Great game, just marvellous.

Munster were great when they were Munster.

alas they are just north munster now.......

I agree that Samoa played a great game but for the amount of times they coughed up the ball so easily they didn't deserve to win.

Yes and no, they were trying to play continuity at all cost and this was smart cos they were trying to avoid tyre Sa scrum while keeping ball in hand for longer so their fantastic broken field runners could get to take on the saffers. Sure this meant they forced the odd pass too many but overall I thought they got it about right Imho. They'll really regret their first half line out performance though, they got it together in the 2nd half, so why not in the 1st too? O2

Pity for them, relief for Ireland though, I wouldn't fancy SA in a 1/4.... I'd take a final against them though ;)

                            Very good game of rugby.

Absolute brain explosion by Paul Williams. Deserved a red IMHO. (As did Smit for his yellow... Clear professional foul watching it on the replay.)

Samoa are a fine side... not too long ago that they beat Australia, remember. A great pity we won't be seeing more of them in this WC.

Some weird comments about the reffing favouring SA, though... and not many people moaning about SA's disallowed try in the 2nd half, I see. Still, I'd probably be supporting the underdogs as well if my team wasn't playing.

Wel done stickman. Ireland struggled against Samoa in the autumn in Dublin. What odds Fiji to beat Wales ahead of flying home? This group in particular asks hefty questions of the powermongers in administration and the scheduling of matches, so-called.

Owens couldn't have awarded that possible SA try in the second half, stickman. He would have been guessing and I don't want refs (or cricket umpires) guessing. The ref uses his eyes, his assistants' eyes and the TMO's eyes and that's what NO did. He wasn't right about everything this morning - and as others have mentioned he was totally wrong about Lemi (and Jannie DuP in the first half) but to his credit he tried to keep the game flowing.

I thought that Schalk was immense this morning - a shoo-in for the MoM award.
