The match was sold-out in the end. Stade won 23-17, but Clermont had a perfectly vaild try that would have won them the game ruled out in the last minute for a supposed 'double movement'. Clermont were the better team and looked really good.

Great start to the Top 14.

Just back from the game and amazed that try wasnt given at the end.

75 odd thousand at it not bad at all

A few sloppy mistakes andthe cut out pass to the wingsat the start of the match cost Clermont badly.

although they got stronger as the game went onwith Stade just looking tired and waiting for the whistle.

Mignoni was a different act on the pitch today, pure class

Forgot to mention him. You're right, he was by far the best player on the park. Every time he touched the ball he made something happen, and he controlled the match perfectly.

Forgot to mention too the two huge bangs Skréla took at the end. He looked pale at the end of the match!

Montpellier vs. Perpignan is on Eurosport (Sky channel 410) in twenty minutes if anyone is interested.

The first one that he took was funny everyone around us was suprised he got up.......think he went as far as possible away from the ball to try and get his barings again only for the ball to straight down his line to be hammered again

Look like great results for Albi & Montpellier - Perpignan seem to have
gone to sleep over the last few years, are they losing out to the local
                Rugby League set up ???

Shoulda been a try for Clermont allright, but conversion was going to be very trivky so may not have effected the result. Typical french home town call - especially in front of such a big crowd it wouldn't be good business to lose.

When do the argies join the fray - next week?

Good start for Mark McHugh at Montpellier, three penalties and a conversion in a home win against Perpignan.....

I watched the game live and I thought he played very well. His kicking was very good indeed, and won Montpellier the match.

There was a bit of drama at the end of the match when time was up though asthe Montpellier half-back just threw the ball into touch only five metres from his own line, all the crowd and Montpellier players celebrated the victory but the referee gave a penalty to Perpignan because of what the half-back did only five metres out with time up. Luckily for Montpellier, Perpignan f**ked it up and nothing came of it.

Interesting to see that Biarritz's s**te form is carrying on from last season - could only draw at home at Albi.

Will be very interested to hear about the team Toulon are going to field this afternoon.

Oh and the Argentinian players will be back either next weekend or the weekend after next for the first round of the Heineken and Challenge Cups.

The Top 14 have changed 2 rules this season, out of line with everywhere else. The Offensive bonus is now not for 4 tries but for scoring 3 tries more than the opposition.

The other change is that the ref can use the TMO at any time to look at anything anywhere on the pitch. We saw it in the Toulouse Dax game where he went back to see if a player had been pushed whilst chasing a ball outside the 22 and also to look at a lineout to see which number Toulouse player had impeded the man in the air.

Big outrage therefore when the ref at the Stade v Clermont game told Clermont that he couldn't see properly if it had been a double movemet but he couldn't go to video-ref because it wasn't in the in-goal area. You'd think that if they were going to change the rules, they'd make sure all of the referees knew. I suspect he just balked out of allowing Clermont to beat SF in Stade de France...

I noticed that SF have 'improved' their home jersey for this season, when watching some of the Clermont game , not that I'm a great fashion critic or anything.

Watched Toulouse vs. Stade earlier on Eurosport. Toulouse won it 28-9 against a Stade side who underperformed and were wearing a very birght, pink jersey. Good game and Toulouse look on great form.

Just finished watching Clermont beat Montpellier easily. They looked awesome in patches too.
