Were Munster after him (Tipoki) last year before we signed Mafi?

Half of those players are TBC, especially the Crusaders lot.

Yeah as far as I know his name was bandied around a bit alright, along with Mose Tuiali'i, the number 8 who's been since playing himself into the All Blacks squad. Tipoki is starting for the crusaders this weekend, think Mauger's injured.

They are my local team... the stadium is a few hundred meters from my home.

They are a 2nd division team and their rank must be 10th or 11th at the moment. The ambition of the new president is to go up next year and be involved in the European Cup in 3 years.

They merged with Metro Rugby Club a few years ago. Frank Mesnel was an ex player.

@@@@SPAN id=intelliTXT>Crusaders and Junior All Black flanker Johnny Leo'o is on the move.

According to the Crusaders official website, the 28-year-old has confirmed that he will be leaving Canterbury following the second Air New Zealand Cup, having signed a contract to play with the Racing Club in the French second division.

Racing plays in the same league as Toulon, who hosted former All Black skipper Tana Umaga for a brief stint earlier this year.

Leo'o made his debut for the Crusaders against Auckland in 1999, and was in the mix in the unbeaten Crusade of 2002.

Although he has had to bide his time behind All Black skipper Richard McCaw for much of his career with the Crusaders, Leo'o has still featured in the last 26 matches played by the side, including every game thus far on the 12th Crusade.

He played his 46th match for the Crusaders earlier this evening, coming off the bench against the Hurricanes at Jade Stadium.

Leo'o also boasts 66 Canterbury caps and promises to be a key player for the side in the second Air New Zealand Cup prior to his departure for France.

He was recognised at national level last year when he was included in the Junior All Blacks - New Zealand's second team - for the inaugural Pacific Five Nations tournament.

This allowed him to play against Samoa, for whom he was previously eligible on heritage grounds, during the Junior All Blacks' run to the title.

Leo'o had previously featured in eight international Sevens tournaments in 2000 and 2001 on the IRB (International Rugby Board) Sevens circuit.

Didn't hear that, fair enough. Can't imagine seeing Tipokion the move though- didn't he sign a two year deal with NZRFU last year. Besides, if they've lost Mauger andcould be losing Mcallister, I'd imagine NZ will doing everything it can to hang on to it'sinside centres.

Tipoki is probably trying to squeeze more money out of the NZRFU. They should call his bluff.

Asterix did indeed play for Racing, andI suppose could be credited with starting their revival. By the mid 80s Racing were one of the top teams in France. As well as being noted for their flair, they were also notorious for their pranks on and off the pitch. Their attitudes would be considered loony today and the arrival of professionalism saw their demise.

Seems like they've got their hands on some dosh again. If they do succeed, maybe they'll bring some colour to French rugby again.

Oz, do they stilloperate out of the complex near the Bois since the merger with metro?

No, Stade Français is near the Bois de Boulogne.

Metro racing is in Stade Yves du Manoir in Colombes. That's where the International games use to take place untill 1973; before the Parc des Princes was built.

Yves du Manoir is now classified as an historical monument but they are going to build a brand new 35 000 seater right next to it before 2010. It will be dedicated to rugby and will be Metro's new home.
