HC needs Munster

Just looked at the English Ticketmaster site, and they are advertising tickets for the HC semi this weekend between Wasps and Northhampton. When you go in you can buy tickets no problem, so the demand mustn't be all that good. The powers that be must be disapointed that for a semi, they cant even get a full house. And the other semi, will have a capacity 32,000, which if switched to Twickers would probably have got at least 50,000. Oh how they miss Munster to draw the crowds.

Wasps may be a big club but their ground only holds 7,500 so they are nto a huge club. Northampton are one of England's more traditional clubs and it seems it is they and not Wasps who are struggling to sell their tickets. I suppose Northampton fans have consoled themselves in the fact that they may be the only current GP side actually competing in the HEC next season!

How arrogant. You aren't the only club who draws a crowd.

it is arrogant. and the HEC doesnt need us. if they did we would get home quarters and semi's ala BO every year with crappy teams in our pool and christopher quinlan banning all our oppositions stars before they play us.

by the way the ERC go on you would think they want us out as soon as possible

If the lessons of history teach us anything it is that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us.

Sure look at how few Leinster fans turned up for last year's semifinal!

It's a shame that the SFs have been over-shadowed by the b***h-fights between the clubs and the Unions. Please God Llanelli will win and at least big a big of real color and excitement to the Final.

Actually, a Leicester V Llanelli final would probably be well attended and exciting. Northampton supporters are too glum to bother now that they're as good as doomed.

It's not arrogance to suggest that the HEC must miss Munster and the crowd they can draw for thesemis, especially for away games.

That's not to say that there aren't other teams that can draw a big crowd but there aren't very many. Leinster and Ulster would havepretty big support, home or away. Leicester can draw a decent but not a massive crowd, as can maybe a couple of the Welsh sides. Toulouse and Stade would only manage it if they were playing at home.

Most of the other sides just don't represent a big enough area to pull in really big crowds.

The first post in this topic was pure arrogance. What you've said isn't so bad.

to be fair, a lot of people that attend Leinster games are not Leinster fans(myself included!) There is plenty of rugby people exiled in Dublin that enjoy as much rugby as they can....the Leinster fan base is growing, but how many 'core' followers do you think they now have?

Leinster have a good dose of Fans and there becoming just as arrogant as Munster Fans, theres a lot more ladyboy jerseys cropping up in the streets of dublin and even the odd flag, Were all arrogant because we wouldnt support our team if we didnt look at them as the supreme, the team that can do no wrong, your a fairy supporter otherwise, DEATH TO ALL BUT MUNSTER and that kind of lark. Im sure there are some leinster fans who feel the same.

                      Shut up Duffman

You're probably on the wrong forum to argue that Munster aren't great.

When the Heinekin Cup first started the fear was that it would become just an Anglo-French cup, with no sides outside of the big three or four clubs in those countries capable of competing (and, to be fair, they have won most of them). Munster invalidated that fear, by reaching the final stages most years, and in doing so, validated the concept of the European Cup.

Now, however, the cup doesn't need Munster, or Leinster, or Toulouse or Leicester. Its an entity in its own right, with its own pedigree, the pedigree of being the premier european rugby prize. The teams that are at the final stages are the best teams, it doesn't need "name" teams any more.

If any of you remember two or three years ago when the sponsorship was up for renewal, Heinekin were very late in announcing that they were going to continue as sponsors, leading to some rumours that FIAT were going to take over the title sponsorship. One of the reasons H were hmming and hawing was because the HEC had become so popular, a sizeable minority of people no longer associated Heinekin with the product itself, or the attributes of the product, they associated it with the European Cup and Heinekin were worried about the potential damage to their brand, what is called Brand Genericide. Thats how popular the HEC is!
