The village of Mulranny, Co Mayo, was mired in grief over the weekend following the death of local man Kevin Moran in a road traffic accident in Australia.

Mr Moran, aged in his early 30s, who represented Connacht Rugby at underage and A level, is reported to have died on Friday in Australia, where he had been living.

A native of Cushlecka, Mulranny, he also played for Mayo rugby club the Westport Bulls and soccer team Achill Rovers, who paid tribute to Mr Moran on social media.

"There are a lot of points that we’ve left behind and this is with a young group. That probably tells you what they’re capable of and that they’re a very good side.

Probably next year or the year after next they will take some stopping"

Anthony Foley, May 2016. Axel RIP
