It seems an odd time to take such drastic action on the part of the RFU. They had their well publicised financial issues at the end of the 2018 financial year but things were looking much healthier when they released their financial reports for 2018/2019 last December. It could be that these cuts were planned for a while?
"It’s not the team you support, it’s the club you should support. The team on the pitch will ebb and flow because that’s the nature of sport. No team has ever been successful decade on decade. The club has the history and that’s the passion you should have."

Looks to me like they’re preparing the ground to ring fence. This cut will really reduce any club’s ability to move up.

Or possibly give Saracens a shot and getting back up and then ring fence. They'll essentially end up with the championship being what the AIL is to the provinces.

Thanks - hasn’t seen that. interesting comments from Prem chairman- don’t want to prevent chances of a championship side making it into the premiership, basically ‘as long as they can afford it’. Cutting their guaranteed revenue will help a lot- shame it isn’t about their rugby performance.

Allianz walking away from Sarries. That's a £2million hit each year.

Barnet Council have stopped any further drawdowns on the loan to rebuild Saracen’s West stand. BBC says no work started on the rebuild, and £3.2m spent so far- and Cooncil want to see a robust plan for repayment before any further payments made. That plan should make interesting reading - given relegation, no European rugby, loss of major sponsor and ongoing annual losses.

                      Great news.
0 sympathy after years of systematic cheating and thumbing their noses at anyone that pointed out the finances couldn't be adding up.
Hard to see how they can stay afloat long term.

Oh dear, Wasps hammer Saracens 60-10 scoring 8 tries tonight. First Wasps game since Dai Young left last week.
The irony of Wasps' first game following Young's exit being against Saracens was huge. In his time in charge, first in High Wycombe, then in Coventry, his failure to win a major trophy with Wasps was largely undermined by Sarries' success. On top of that, he was also powerless to prevent two of his best players moving to Allianz Park in that time - Alex Lozowski in 2016 and Elliot Daly in 2019.
"There are a lot of points that we’ve left behind and this is with a young group. That probably tells you what they’re capable of and that they’re a very good side.

Probably next year or the year after next they will take some stopping"

And a good thing too- it was left lie a couple of years ago and Saracens just took the p*ss- and besides, keeping their own top players in England is in their own interests, and special circumstance or no, it raises the prospect of a wider weakening of the defences.

                                Good for the other clubs.
