@@@@SPAN =storyline>Humphreys back in Ulster side@@@@/SPAN>

@@@@SPAN =storydate>15/02/2007@@@@/SPAN>
Mark McCall has recalled David Humphreys to out-half for Ulster's Magner's League tie against The Dragons at Ravenhill on Friday night.

The side also includes seven Ulster players who have been involved with the Irish senior team in recent weeks in Isaac Boss, Paddy Wallace, Andrew Trimble, Tommy Bowe, Neil Best, Simon Best and Bryan Young.

There is some concern over the fitness of Roger Wilson. New signing Sam Harding is primed to step into his boots.

ULSTER (v The Dragons):
15 - Bryn Cunningham
14 - Tommy Bowe
13 - Paul Steinmetz
12 - Paddy Wallace
11 - Andrew Trimble
10 - David Humphreys
9 - Isaac Boss
1 - Justin Fitzpatrick
2 - Paul Shields
3 - Simon Best
4 - Justin Harrison (Captain)
5 - Tim Barker
6 -Neil Best
7 - Kieron Dawson
8 -Stephen Ferris

Replacements:
16 - Stuart Philpott
17 - Bryan Young
18 - Ryan Caldwell
19 - Roger Wilson/Sam Harding
20 - Kieran Campbell
21 - Kevin Maggs
22 - Paul McKenzie

So they're only missing Neil and Rory Best out of their international players?
Not a bad situation to have.

Still playing Wallace at 12 when he badly needs a run of games at 10.

Indeed, I wonder is there a trade-off with EOS - "Either Trimble plays wing or Paddy plays 10, you choose" ?

You'd think that for Ulster's own good they'd give Paddy as much time as possible at 10 this year and have Humph on the bench just in case.

Neil Best is in the team list at 6!

Thought we should have had Paddy at 10, Trimble at 13, McKenzie on the wing and Humph on the bench to give Paddy some more game time at 10 and to try to show eddie where he went wrong with last Sunday's selections ( should have played Darcy 12, Trimby 13 and Shaggy 14)

Pretty glaring oversight on my behalf.

Only missing Rory Best then.

Neil Best to start on friday can only mean one thing - Easterby to start against England.

Possibly, but then again you need to win this to stay in the hunt for ML title.

Does Eddie REALLY have that much influence on what happens in the provincial teams? Does no Rory Best suggest he will start against the English? What about Flannery on the bench-surely Eddie would've preffered him to start for some game-time.

If he did then Wallace would surely play at ten?

I'd love to hear the phone conversation/read the memo/email outlining Eddie's desires, and the responses from the provincial coaches!

AFAIK Eddie doesn't talk alot to the provinces....

I don't know if we can read too much into these selections, does Eddie even know who is going to wear six against England yet? Likewise he may not have made his mind up about hooker. Presumably Easterby will be starting for the Scarlets at the weekend assuming they have a game.

The Scarlets are playing the weegies this evening but Easterby doesn't seem to be in their 22.

Folks ye're underestimating Eddie here. Eddie never drops his
favourites & Easterby is certainly a favourite. It doesn't matter
how he plays or Best plays. Form is not a factor in his decision.

Best has played 20mins rugby in 4 weeks, there was no question he was going to play this weekend
