Might have played in the pre Lions game in 2000? Game might have
cost Hickie his place on that tour.
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.

He played in that game, that was the Probables v Possibles ( sorry Munster v Rest of Ireland, the same thing I suppose ),he scored a great try AFAIR. I don't think Henry would have been impressed with much of the rest of the game.

Hickie was never going on that Tour, not while Donal Lenihan was involved. He swore (in the press) after SA in 98 that Hickie would never play for him again after conceding four tries to Terblanche on his debut (although injuries meant he played in the second test, the battle of pretoria). It was only when O'Sullivan became assistant coach and Lenihan was effectively sidelined, marking time until the Lions Tour, that Hickie was brought back. When an extra winger was required mid tour, Hickie was overlooked in favour of Tyrone Howe, at the insistance of Lenihan.

Thought you'd be a huge fan of Lenihan since he was the only reason
O'Gara actually got on that tour?

Totally forgettable games both. Was there and can remember little, except that Romania actually dominated Ireland in the second half. And that the crowds were well below capacity.

At the time he was the incumbent for Ireland, he had a very good year for Ireland in '00 and was playing well for Munster too. I honestly don't know what involvment Lenihan had in the selection of O'Gara though. His inclusion never made the kind of waves that the exclusion of Hickie did
