Great win up North last week, went backwards last night though. Looks like 2A will be a division where everyone can win on any given day.
Its deja vu all over again!!!

Great game in the 'Dyke tonight. Con led 15-3 at halftime but College came back strongly and led 18-15 halfway through the second half. Con went in in the corner with three or four minutes left.

College put the restart out on the full, Con took the Scrum on halfway and the game petered out.

        College 18 (2T) Con 20 (3T) 1-4

Only for the Con Scrum which was well in top all through it would have been College's night .

Won by a point. 13-12. Fantastic to get first win of league. Not great game but getting 4 points on board all that matters

Boomer came on for ten or fifteen minutes. He didn't look remotely fit but did his job in the tight and, most importantly, walked off when subbed near the end.
Cheers for that. The educated look to have a strong backline but the pack just doesn’t look AIL 1 standard. Did Travis Cooney get a run?

Great to see O’Connor back too. What a horror injury.

Then who was the replacement Loosehead that came on for Con last night?

I asked the man in front of me, who was taking copious notes all through, who he was and he said "O'Connor, I can't think of his nickname" "Boomer" I said, "That's right" said he.

EDIT Although now that I look at Boomer's squad photo on the Munster Rugby site, he isn't the player that I saw last night.

                Sorry about that.

My game tonight (as Tony Sheehan used to say on Radio Eireann when I were a lad ) was in Woodleigh Park where Highfield beat Dolphin by 29 (5T) to 12 (0T) 5-0.

It was 12 all at half time even though Dolphin only got into the Highfield 22 in the last few minutes of the half, having played with the wind and the slope.

The Highfield full back got a great try from halfway, spotting a gap and stepping two or three defenders.

In their defence, Dolphin lost a man for a tackle in the air about halfway through the second half.

College 17 (3T) Terenure 18 (3T). A strong cross wind meant that only two kicks were scored. College's was a conversion and ''Nure's was a Penalty and that made all the difference.

Again, College's Scrum was their downfall. After one of them the entire Front Row ended up on their backs. The winning kick was from a Scrum Pen with two minutes left.

My reading of that is if the clubs can't find a compromise the Union will push ahead with expanding the number of A games. A full home and away series of Celtic Cup A games would give 14 A matches a year which is probably about right.

I hope that as a minimum the clubs would ind a way o ensuring that the 18 AIL weekends don't clash with those Celtic Cup weekends. That is not in anybody's interests but I'd be worried that the the Union will lose patience and bulldoze something through and the clubs dig their heels in.

My own personal preference would be some version of the original Union proposal for a stronger Division 1. I think there is more chance of building momentum and interest around a Clontarf V Cork Con game (for example) than a Munster A versus Ospreys A.

In Templehill today where Garryowen are the visitors. Mr Lacey is in charge.

I notice Brian Scott, the Tighthead, who often packs down on the Loose side as well, is with Con, these days.

Is that because Dolphin are in 2A?

EDIT he moved over to Loosehead when Gavin Duffy went off late in the game. I noticed afterwards that he had a No5 Jersey on him with a three stuck on it. Con, obviously don't have a big enough 3 jersey for him.

13(1T) -3 at HT. Garryowen hd the benefit of a strong diaginal wind (and rain). The Con try was a dropped pass kicked on and on and touched down.

EDIT Garryowen's points came from a pen for Offside. The ball was kicked by the Con OH, it was touched in flight and caught by the Con Loosehead. The Grumpy Old Men in the Dressing Room corner protested and Sir replied, to them it seemed to me, along the lines of "it doesn't matter whether it was touched or not, he was still offside."

I don't remember a Ref explaining his decision to the crowd before.

27(3T) to 3 in the end. In reality it was a lot closer than that, that last seven coming deep into Injury time.

Mr Lacey was cheered to the echo by the Grumpies (Holland, Lenihan et al) as he went up the steps to the Dressing Rooms at the end.

Piquet whatever about professional referees such as Lacey but is there a need to be having a go/going on about refs every week in AIL? Not really necessary.....

We were well beaten last night. Disappointed but Cashel look very strong this year. Will be pushing for promotion. Big few weeks ahead with Dolphin and Crescent

                                Firstly "every week" ?

Secondly, as a paying spectator, I'm entitled to comment on whatever goes on on the pitch and adjacent thereto, as long as the usual requirements of respect are adhered to.

Thirdly, now that I think of it, when reporting on the Ref's performance, I restricted myself to the facts .
