    Girls rugby in Cork

Hi all, just to get it out there that Highfield RFC, Cobh Pirates, Midleton and Carrigaline have pooled their teams and coaching resources to found u18 and U15 girls teams.
Most of the girls are novices so any of you out there who may have daughters or sisters who are interested in playing they need not be afraid!

Munster rugby are supporting this great initiative also and pics of the first matches can be seen on the domestic news web pages.

Highfield girls train on. Mon nights... Combined Cork South development squad trains on Saturdays in one of Cobh, Midleton or Highfield. Second match next weekend..

    Just to add to this,

the U15 combined south Cork team are taking on a combined Youghal/Thurles team in Youghal on Saturday(13th) afternoon at 1pm...

& if your up Thurles way the U18's are playing the same match in Thurles time also 1pm..

So if you have a young lady interested you could pop along to either of the games to introduce her to ladies youth rugby.

"Syrana" on de Villiers "A step, a hand off and two more defenders beaten on the line and the third try was in the bag. It's amazing what a world class inside centre can do when you play him at inside centre!"

South Cork put up a valiant fight at both levels today. U15 have come on in giant strides in their second match scoring two tries against a superb youghal Thurles team. U18 girls came a bit closer going down only 31 15. Early days yet for the fledgling side who could do with lots of Cork support.!

Next step is to choose a proper Jersey. Many thanks to Cobh Pirates who have helped the girls out with this in the interim. We hope to go looking for a sponsor for this endeavour. Watch this space.

Hi, my wife has had thoughts about trying rugby. Does anyone know of a club with a ladies team in the south side of cork city? Social rugby level type thing?

Contact Ger from highfield women's rugby via their facebook page. They can definitely point her in the right direction. The ladies train I think 730 on a Monday night as they are there after our daughter.

Generally Munster Rugby have a women's development officer Amanda Greensmith who was really supportive in finding our daughter a club. See domestic news and women's pages on the munster rugby website.

Hope this helps samboc as the ladies clubs really need support. Thanks for your reply!

There are little kickers/rugby based Blackrock direction. I saw an ad last year they were looking for coaches so they must be reasonably busy.

Highfield have an U6 group if that's any use. The kid must be 5 in the September etc - normal eligibility....

It's all very 'softly softly' and a good age-appropriate intro to the game.

Usually 1030 on Saturdays - they have a decent astro pitch which the kids use a lot.

Many thanks to Munster Rugby Women's development officer Amanda Greensmith for organising yesterday's guard of honour and half time match in Ashbourne. It was great to see a lot of young ladies at the event supporting the irish team. The ladies were a credit to the country last night and it was a thrilling atmosphere to the end with the added drama of the floodlight failure. Munsterfans cmon get your daughters playing with the minis and ensure the future of ladies rugby!
