Gatland lets big (Lions) cat out of bag

Wazza Gatland is not known for thinking before he spakes - and on this occasion we should be grateful for that.

According to the (British) Torygraph - Wazza has shared with everyone his motivation in picking Farrell over Edwards as Lions defence coach - namely because he was putting the interests of Wales first - and wanted an insight into the thinking of his world Cup rivals England.

This strengthens the view, held widely on this side of the Irish sea, that when it cames to matters of selection Welsh interests were also given priority.

.. and his comments on Keith Wood will also keep the Lions selection controversy simmering away in the run up to the 6N.

Tubridy will grill Mr. Gatland, on the national insult that was to omit Mr. O' Driscoll, on the Late Late tonight.

Get your pitchforks ready and head to the capital.

Who actually cares what Warren has to say about anything.

The man is a clown. He was a Beale slip away from losing a Lions tour to a much weaker than usual Wallabies side.

Tyan Rubridy is about as useless at grilling guests as the George Foreman machine would be if they put it on the desk instead of him.

There will be nothing of note or controversy in tonight's interview. Chit chat bout the Irish lions, his time in Galway and how St Joe will do during his tenure.
            I am the million man.

Why would he agree to go on if he was going to be grilled? We all know how Gatland feels about the Irish, it's probably going to be a smug exercise of rubbing it in while knowing any difficult topics are off limits. Could be sure he wouldn't be going on had the Lions lost, won't be satisfying viewing at all.

If Tubridy did grillings he'd never have got the job.

Tbh, having read the article, I am not sure the story is as sensational as the headline makes it out to be. Funny that.

Someone needs to explain the meaning of Me Feiner to Warren as he obviously misunderstood it....
Maybe he meant Fianna Fail-er....ie- Bull****ter? I dunno!

(anyone else think sacking him has proven a huge mistake by the IRFU?)

Gats has ambitions to coach the ABs, if Tubs had brains the proper question to Gats would be the BOD tackle on 2005 Tour and does he condone it or what would he have done, was it premeditated to take out BOD at first opp.

The 2013 selection decision on BOD is an easy one for Gats as the end justifies the means.

The night of the long knives when EOS + others would make for good listening at this point, Gats inteview could be very good value if Tubs aint scared to have a crack.

Poor wee Gatty has always been a martyr to nasty old Irish boys - mean Keith Fester being a me feiner when Warren was being 100% altruistic etc. Why do they all bully poor Warren? Is he a hidden ginger or something? Thank goodness he made some really good chums amongst those nice sensitive Welsh lads, or his Mum might have had to let him change schools again...

Grill Gatland? On what? On how he's been more successful in his coaching career than Irish rugby has been in it's entire history?

I thought Gatland came across great last night, and it's a pity the dimwitted bean pole was unable to stretch the conversation past the dropping of one player in a game he ended up winning. "Why did you do it Warren.....But why did you do it?" Jesus, to watch an idiot like beanpole attempt to grill one of the most successful coaches in the game on why he made a rugby decision sums up what has happened Irish Rugby over the last few years The sport of choice for 14 year girls and sport-illiterate male adults on facebook and twitter.

Keith Wood's lasting legacy to Irish rugby by the way, was to lead a coup to turf out a great head coach who went on to win two Grand Slams (plus another 6 Nations on top of that) and a Lions tour, and replace him with a man who has been unable to get any job coming up in professional rugby in the past number of years. He won nothing with Ireland, or any Irish team. He made a complete and utter tit of himself in all this.

sorry but hindsight being massively thrown in there. At the time he was turfed out Gatland had brought us the 14 man lineout, defeat in Lens and a blown GS that was there for the taking. He was not a great coach at that point and was failing. Until EOS joined the coaching staff Ireland were rubbish. Being sacked by Ireland made Gatland and the revisionist idea that we blew having a great coach is just that I'm afraid, revisionist. Gatland was going nowhere near a GS with Ireland, apart from the one he blew by dropping half the side for no reason.
