    Tom Croft called up.

In light of Alan Quinlan's failed appeal,
Lions Tour Manager Gerald Davies has announced that Leicester and
England flanker Tom Croft has today been called into the Lions squad as
    a replacement for Quinlan.

The decision to replace the Munster and Ireland
flanker was forced on the Lions following an ERC judiciary hearing on
Wednesday May 13 and the subsequent appeal held today in Glasgow.

Davies said "Alan Quinlan's suspension is naturally disappointing
and he must be devastated by the outcome of the hearing and appeal.
That said the Lions management fully accepts the decisions of the ERC
judicial process. The outcome necessitated the selection of a new
player and Ian McGeechan and his fellow selectors had no hesitation in
    selecting Leicester's Tom Croft."

Commenting on the replacement for the British & Irish Lions tour
to South Africa, McGeechan said on the official Lions website, "We had
to be fair and allow Alan Quinlan the opportunity to appeal his
suspension. However, following the outcome of the appeal we have
replaced Quinlan with Tom Croft who, it must be said, was very unlucky
not to have been selected in the original tour party."

"Tom showed in his recent performances for Leicester following the
tour party announcement that he could put aside his disappointment and
perform at a very high level. He was on our selection reserve list and
today his continued good form has been rewarded with selection to the
Lions squad for the tour of South Africa," added McGeechan.

Croft will join the Lions squad after Saturday's Heineken Cup final.

Crane hasn't the pace for the SA back row- he's a fine player but he wasn't blessed with pace. Spies does the 100m in 10.8.Croft does have pace-a no brainer he should have been in the first squad instead of worsely.

How many times have you seen two number 8s in a sprint off Outlaw? Especially when one of the number 8s isnt actually a number 8?

Croft can certainly lift loads of weights and run fast, will be interesting to see if he can actually play rugby at this high a level.

Why would you want Crane in the squad? We only have/had one blindside flanker in the squad. Also, its funny how slow he is.

Croft is a somewhat silly choice too. The selected Quinlan for one reason, he is an annoying little pr**k. Why then go for a player that plays in the total opposite style?

Don't quitesee your point bosh. just watch the super 14 to see spies in action. He's an absolutely phenomenal rugby player his pace off the back of the scrum is something I've never seen before from a number 8. The fact he's 17 stone as well helps. Lions have to macth him with pace- ie Wallace or Heaslip. IN my view Crane hasn't quite got that pace.

Because he is the best forward in Europe?

Am???? right place at the right time kind of guy.. more than anything... best forward in europe... not so sure. I though the Lions would go like for like..i.e Chris Robshaw is sort of in the Quinlan mould.. will be interestgin to see how Croft goes... bigger question is who will come in for Halfpenny for the first couple of games?
