Horan to call it a day

Good luck Marcus. Ridiculous try scoring record for a prop. Best memory of him was outpacing Stade Francais outside backs running it in from outside the 22. Best of luck in whatever you choose to do and thanks for the memories.. and telling Rob Kearney in no uncertain terms he just as proud an Irishman as he is a Munsterman.

The Art of Contact by Brenny

The theme of the commentary on the six nations so far seems to be predominantly about contact, collisions and the like, either everyone is giving out about how it is dominating the championship or else people are complaining that Ireland aren’t winning the collisions. A lot of people are also giving out about the fact that we are suffering on the injury front because we are not able for the collisions either because we are ‘too protected’, ‘not protected enough’ or ‘not genetically predisposed...

    Munster A v Leinster A Match Report

Right this will be muddled, but my initial thoughts. Pitch was like tarmac, and small. Ingoal areas were tiny. Penney watched both halves from behind our own goal posts, with a hood over his head (looked like the grim reaper) Both sides bought into the conditions and played attacking, quick rugby. There was shadow boxing going on for the majority of the 1st half, sizing each other up. Young Conway latched onto some sloppy played and scythed his way under the posts. The lad has serious wheels,...

Time to heed the Father of Angst

    by Eamo

Right now, if you are reading this and you are a Munster supporter, I fear you are experiencing angst, the feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of Munster rugby in general. The is no reason for you to know or even care about the Danish philosopher Sǿren Kierkegaard, but he is attributed with identifying and defining that part of the human condition we call...

    Niall O'Driscoll, Rest in Peace

The death occurred on Friday of former Munster Branch President, Niall O'Driscoll after a short illness. Niall was one of finest Presidents we have had, and a true Munster Rugby man. Through his diligent committee work, his involvement in the development of Stadia in Munster and the support ODM Financials gave to Munster Rugby, he will be sorely missed. A minute's silence was observed at last Saturday's game against Edinburgh.

Niall (pictured on left), is survived by his wife...

  • Squeaky Bum Time approaches
    by mr chips
(By Piquet - not my work!)
    1/2

That time of the season so beloved of Sir Alex Ferguson is coming into view.

There will have to be major rule changes next year, given that of all the Premiership teams, only one, Saracens, are not in the bottom half of their Pool.
Peculiarly enough, of the ten fixtures in Round Four, only three had different results from the previous Round.
Significant gaps have developed in three of the pools and the first four casualties...

  • Piquet's Half Time Analysis
    by mr chips
    (1/2)
Right, we’re at the Halfway stage both in the Head to Head games and overall.

In the old days, if you lost your first match, you didn't win the Heineken Cup. Munster put a stop to that in 2006. Then, if you lost your first two matches, you were out. With the change in format to allow three rather than two Pool runners up go through, that went by the wayside two years ago courtesy of Bath.

Gerry Thornley in the Irish Times had an interesting article last week...
