  • Munster A vs Carnegie Match Report

Munster A vs Carnegie Match Report

So we deserved it, just. Back in the door from a freezing cold Kinsale rugby club. Very little parking up at the ground but mini buses were provided from Charles Fort and Kinsale itself so the club clearly put the effort in. Well run evening so kudos to the club for putting it on. Decent turnout given that the weather was brutal and Ulster were playing in the ERC. Definitely three hundred there anyway, probably more. Carnegie looked like a young side but they were big lads too. Very few familiar faces in their line up but I was curious to see how a certain Mr Sinfield would get on at ten. The wind was blowing a serious gale in the first half and we had it at our backs. We struggled to get much momentum going with ball in hand but the r...

Injury ends Paul O'Connell's Ireland career

Paul O'Connell has played his last game for Ireland. It was confirmed this morning that a severe hamstring injury sustained against France will see him miss the rest of the Rugby World Cup.

The Ireland captain was stretchered off in pain following an awkward tackle just before half time in the 24-9 victory over France in Cardiff on Sunday.

    Sherry To Start For Munster

    20 August 2015 13:57

Mike Sherry to return for Munster this Friday
    Inpho

Head Coach Anthony Foley has named his side to take on Connacht in Thomond Park on Friday night with hooker Mike Sherry named to start for the first time since November 2013.

Side-lined for 21 months Sherry has undergone an extended period of rehabilitation and recovery due to an initial knee injury and recurring shoulder issues that have ruled him out until now. It is with great relief to see Mike, a player who "did think the shoulder would be career threatening at times", involved in Munster's pre-season

  • G12 Semi Final - Munster vs Ospreys Sat 23rd May KO 14.30 Sky & TG4

G12 Semi Final - Munster vs Ospreys Sat 23rd May KO 14.30 Sky & TG4

Hopefully the second last preview of the season and not the last! Munster play in Limerick for the first time in 8 weeks against one of two teams who have beaten us twice this season.

Saturday’s playoff will be a great opportunity to win a place in a final, the Ospreys have form in this competition, and have won it 4 times to our 3. They’ve also more wins this season than us 16-15, a better defensive record than us this season conceding 30 tries to our 31 and both their outhalves are in the leading points scorers for the league (although Keatley is top). This will be a very very tight and competitive game.

Our Form Pretty damn good truth be told, Munster are finding their groove one loss in ten. The injuries have all seemed to appear again in a tranche but we will look at further on, 22 out of a possible 25 league points in the last 5 games tells its own story. There is competition for almost every jersey bar the bac...

  • G12 Game 17) Ospreys V Munster. Saturday 7th March, KO 14:40 SKY & Liberty Stadium.

Into the last 6 scheduled league games already, we have been close to the top on occasion but go into this game as outright leaders by a point. Ospreys are a known quantity to us, but have often appeared to be a side who know exactly how to break down our game and make life very difficult.

The Liberty is not a place we have a great record, we’ve won 3 of our 11 games there in total, having said that the Munster team looks more confident than it has at any stage all season, the results have been pleasing over the last 6 weeks, and we are getting ‘new’ players all the time like Earlsy, JOD and hopefully this weekend hopefully Donnacha Ryan!

Our Form Unbeaten in this league since new years day. This block of games during the 6 Nations is a four game series: we’ve bonus pointed Cardiff, drawn in Scarlets...

Munster v Glasgow. Musgrave Park Saturday 28 Feb. 7.15 SKY SPORTS

These rounds of matches during Test windows are almost always impossible to call, players spend a lot of time travelling to and fro from national camps and training with the provinces is always disjointed. Having said that it is a key time to make inroads into cementing a pro12 playoff and considering how tight it is at the summit every single game counts, massively. Munster managed a draw away to Scarlets last weekend which saw them drop from second to third on the league table.

Our form We last met Glasgow on December 20th, 2014 and since then we have played seven matches, resulting in 4 wins, a draw & 2 losses. Saracens hammered the stuffing out of us and Connacht blitzed Munster on New Years Day. Outside of that it hasn’t been too bad a period for Axel and his men, if you look at the Blues and Sale games we managed to score 98 points in 160 mins of rugby, we also put 31 points on Zebre away and...

Panoramic View as we enter the final stages

Its **** or bust time for Munster but here is the overall vista

Only two unbeaten teams remain. Only one of them has a 100% record. Treviso still have no points. 28 Bonus Points have been earned, 11 Try Bonuses and 17 losing Bonuses.

Where teams are level on points in a Pool, the first Tie-breaker between the teams is the Match Points in the Head to Head fixtures between the teams. Unlike previous years, however, where the Match Points are level, the next tie-breaker is Points Difference rather than Tries Scored.
Where teams finish level on points and are in different pools, Points Difference is again the first Tiebreaker. Tries are next, then the fewer cited players and finally Lots

  • Squeaky Bum Time approaches
    mr chips
(By Piquet - not my work!)
    1/2

That time of the season so beloved of Sir Alex Ferguson is coming into view.

There will have to be major rule changes next year, given that of all the Premiership teams, only one, Saracens, are not in the bottom half of their Pool.
Peculiarly enough, of the ten fixtures in Round Four, only three had different results from the previous Round.
Significant gaps have developed in three of the pools and the first four casualties...

  • Piquet's Half Time Analysis
    mr chips
    (1/2)
Right, we’re at the Halfway stage both in the Head to Head games and overall.

In the old days, if you lost your first match, you didn't win the Heineken Cup. Munster put a stop to that in 2006. Then, if you lost your first two matches, you were out. With the change in format to allow three rather than two Pool runners up go through, that went by the wayside two years ago courtesy of Bath.

Gerry Thornley in the Irish Times had an interesting article last week...
