Crescent or CBC.

I watched CBC around the end of September and they were impressive.

    It does not matter.

In late September or early October 2005 CBC scored 60+ in a game with SMC. The Senior Cup however ended up in Corbally.

If you want some idea of how various teams are shaping up have a look at their results against Blackrock in the friendlies played between Christmas and the end of January.

If you get the opportunity to go to one do so.

The force is strong with this one. Spot on analysis. Early season form means absolutely nathing in the Munster schools cup.

Ardscoil had a very strong JC team a couple of years ago (back to back wins, I think, it was certainly a win and another final) but I'm not sure how that has translated with the SC team.

Interestingly enough, there was a 6th Years v SC team game coming up to the LC and the 6th Year team (those who played for club but not school) ran the SC team very close, is that the case in other schools or were we unusual? Was some good players in the SC team, Sean Cronin, Conan Doyle and David Sherry to name just a few.

The Senior Sup ended up in Corbally largely due to the CBC coach refusing to make any changes. Apparently he said to them at half time, "you've got yourselves into this mess, so you can get yourselves out of it" ! And walked off ! Quality coaching

As I recall the final, PBC were like England 2006, loads of possession, full of huff and puff but no penetration. Corbally got less of the ball but their use of it was generally better, they got their noses in front, and when 10, 12 & 13 combined they unhinged PBC gloriously. That Earls try was deserving of the Cup itself. View it hereafter about 2:00 minutes.

Also, it's hard to make significant changes at that level during a game - the teams are trained generally to play one way, with a tight core of 17-18 regular players.

Ardscoil had a couple of nice wins in Junior Cup - not back to back though - I thought it was W-L-W in the three finals. Hard to predict Senior Cup teams from Juniors - it's a huge jump. Their captain in the 2005 final, a big no. 8, whose name escapes me, was a fine player. But I heard some of that team had given up the game.

[EDIT: Thanks Glorob - I had typed CBC instead of PBC - sure I'm only from Limerick]

blackwarrior, St Munchin's beat PBC in the final of the 2006 Schools Senior Cup. PBC beat CBC in the semi final in a game CBC should have won. Equally given the amount of possession they had you would have expected PBC to win the final. However some great defence from SMC and a try worthy of a Senior Cup Final ensured the Cup went to Corbally for the 3rd time in 5 years.

The pass was not forward but may look a bit like it in the video due to the camera angle.

As somebody who did not go to a rugby playing school I couldn't give a toss. Schools rugby is over-rated and is killing the clubs at juvenile level.

Anyone remember how he was described in a preview of the Senior Cup? Something along the lines of "a workman like scrum half" which we all no means...well I think we all no what it means. I'll leave this post with the following jem,

I've just watched it a load of times in a row and it really really looks to me like the 13 catches the ball in front of where the other guy passes it to him. It certainly didn't go backwards anyway.

    Still a very good try.

I certainly didn't go to a rugby playing school, but the school game has it's place, and I enjoy any of the matches I get to.

But there is a problem in the Limerick area, and probably others, regarding very large school squads preventing clubs getting their underage players to play for them. The balance of power seems to be with the schools too much. Kids need rugby games, not sitting around as part of large school squads.
