Why can't Corbett follow T Walsh as much as he wants? (even though it seems negative)

What is Marty and Duignams problem

I don't think it's just following R. Seems to be more niggly. Not so happy with that myself.

Absolutely; let Lar act the pillock as much as he likes. The less hurling that Lar plays, the better for Kilkenny.

Because you're not allowed mark Kilkenny players when RTE are broadcasting the games, duh

    Stupid me.

TJ Reid has had some game but Duignam might still give the MOTM to St Tommy

  10. #9248
Michael Duignan needs to be put out to pasture....seriously!! He goes silent for 2 minutes every now and again and you can just tell he's knocking one out to a replay of a Kilkenny score in the commentators box!! Marty is a saint to put up with him

That was some message KK gave to Tipp, what a second half.

Poor tactics by Tipp. Lars mind seemed to be elsewhere, he seemed to storm down the tunnel at the end chasing someone.

The only consultation for Galway is KK will be such hot favourites.

Some change in tempo in 2nd half. But agree with Loughnane (yikes!) that it was pure stupidity to use Lar to mark a KK back instead of getting out there and scoring!

After that performance, I suspect that Lar reckoned that he should have stayed retired.

It's always a risk coming back - sometimes it works, but other times you're left with egg on your face.

Think Tipp got suckered on that, and he wasn't the only one. Had Tipp hurled instead of getting suckered into that game of batin nine shades out of each other they'd have got somewhere. Hope we see a game of hurling for the final, and not the likes of Loughnane sayin' it's a 'man's game'.

Reckon Cats will win final, not too many get 2 runs on 'em.

Lar's problems go back to last years final when he finally woke up and realised he was Lar Corbett.

I'm in France on holiday. Just saw the score - the back door has just become a cat flap. Depressing but I'm not sure why.

How do the others beats these guys? Senior hurling is in serious trouble if this continues.

Having said that, well done to the Cats - it's not their fault they keep the bar higher than anyone else can jump.

My God but my depression knows no depths after that complete capitulation, shameful embarrassment and utter humiliation that Kilkenny deservedly inflicted upon us today.

Disgraceful and utterly ludicrous tactics (if you could even call them tactics) were employed and failed disastrously which pains me considering the solid ability and genuine talent in much of that Tipp team.

For this I hold the Tipp management wholly responsible and they must step down. 2 years of relative failure.

HOWEVER, thank you so much to our wonderful Minors for winning such an excellent game, they brought such pride to the jersey and deserve wonderful kudos, thank you squad and management.

How Duignan is still employed by RTE is beyond me.

Possibly he's there to act as a counter-weight to Donie, Muller and Ger.

Biggest championship defeat for Tipp since 1897. He he he. The pubs in Birr were deserted last night. The Tipps won't be seen for a month, I'd say.

Playing soccer, anytime a defender ignored the general play and tried to mark me out of a match, I always found the best tactic was to drift near the other center back, putting 2 of their defenders in close proximity leaving big gaps for midfielders to exploit, the reality for Tipp though was that all the rest of the KK players bate their opposite numbers which meant they couldn't gain from it.

  31. #9268
The reality of it was Tipp had no interest in hurling at all yesterday and it caught them big time. Thanks Christ Galway did to us last week what they did, KK on that form would put 20 points on us.

Presuming you didn't see the game. Leaving the multiple fights in the first five minutes aside, it was an OK (no better than that) game of hurling until HT, at which time Tipp led by a point. KK seemed to have done most of the hurling, Tipp hadn't really played at all, but still managed to lead. Most people expected Tipp to come out in the 2nd half and do some hurling and probably open up a lead. It transpired that while Tipp (most of 'em....) took the field their minds seemed elsewhere; they seemed to have forgotten their objective (i.e. to score/win the game...). When LC eventually came on the field (5 minutes after the half started....), it was soon obvious he wasn't interested in hurling. And then the Tipp 'management' seemed to not understand the basics. Having forwards following the KK backs around instead of looking for space; putting your best game-breaker inside on the edge of the square, not even giving players like Kelly and Callinan a run when it became obvious a few players were running out of steam. If that was planned, then the tactics were crazy. And Declan Ryan was impassive on the sideline; looked like he was tring to figure one of Dipstick's old posts, or maybe just day-dreaming. KK didn't do a lot better in the 2nd half, but put on young guys who ran at a tiring Tipp midfield and defense. You wouldn't see worse at a Junior B derby match, and at time it looked like that. Some of the KK goals looked great, but if you allow lads to run from centrefield and take pot-shots at goal from 20 yards you're going to see goals. Tipp just didn't turn up at all in the 2nd half. A lot of Tipp folk are really disappointed in DR, especially as the previous manager had them hurling in a totally different realm. I even heard folk saying that Babs would have done better.......

Suppose all I'm saying is that Tipp didn't turn up to hurl and KK did eventually do some hurling. But a lot of the old guard are gone. Even the great Henry looked out of it for most of the game (he's still good at the frees).

KK are probably raging hot favourites now, but if Galway could beat 'em once (& comprehensively), then there should be no reason they can't be capable of doing the same again.

But if you want to watch a great game of hurling, then the minor game is the one to watch. Some great skill and plays on display from both sides. Tipp just shading it until the Galway FB sent off for holding his man (yes, it was a foul, but no more than that); game over then and Tipp coasted from then on too. Individual skill looked to be on a different planet to most of what we saw in the senior game. And both teams put on subs that looked better than the guys playing later.

  33. #9270
99 ok i think you are analysing the game through extremely fogged up Tipp glasses there. Murphy, Delaney, Tommy, Hogan, Fennelly, reid, larkin and Fogarty were all excellent yesterday. The quality of fielding brought to the table yesterday meant that tipp couldnt cope with them and were playing catch up most of the day. Some poor decision making, excellent goalkeeping(cummins and poor keeping(Herrity) meant tipp went in a point up in a game where there were hanging on. In the second half tipp were blown away.

I agree that the tipp management have a lot to answer for as corbett should have been taken off 10 min into 2nd half. Bonnar maher also should have been on the 40 and o meara should have been on edge of square. John o brien shouldnt have started either. Corbetts repeated attempts to get Tommy walsh sent off were a disgrace to tipp hurling and imo he should be dealt with retrospectively by the ccc. theres no place for that in hurling and i thought in general tipp played the head a lot in the tackle which is a new low in hurling. For the last few years the tackle has crept up to the upper chest and occasionaly neck area which isnt a good development but yesterday more often than not tipp players made contact with the helmet area either with the hand or hurl in the tackle.
All in all Tipp appeared almost afraid of Galway and resorted to trying to beat them up almost instead of hurling them and paid the price. In fact it reminded me a bit of a game in the early 00s when Tipp were again Kks main rivals but were blown away in Croker and werent seen for a few yrs again. Yesterday had that feel to it.
