I thought it would be good to start this thread to highlight U20's rugby. If anybody looks at this age group it is easy to see who is going to make it big for their club/provience. Just take a look at Bohs for example: Gary Walsh, Tommy O'Donnel, Dave Foley and more all making a huge impact at Senior club and proviencial level. The hits are huge, the commitment is unparalleled, the local derby's are even bigger than at senior level imo.

So anybody with any info on their clubs progress please post it here.

UL Bohs: Undefeated with 2 draws.

Shannon U20's are doing well enough at the moment, think we beat cons solidly during the weekend!!

And the Shannon nursery continues to do well, seeing as the u20's that were playing 2 years ago are now doing well for the 1st XV

Ah i cant wait for the Shannon VS. Bohs match. I think the U20's rugby is great for developing players and afterall the Irish 20's are the only ones to do well last season a Grand Slam.

If you're gonna have a gander at the transition from U-20'S to senior. UCC Senior currently top of Div 2 with a team that consists of 13 of last years U-20 team, three guys who were playing schools rugby last year and all bar one of the team is 21 or less.
First of all places like UL. UCC, UCD, and Queens etc. have to be admired for the importance they place on the development of youth rugby.
And the fact that they can be competitive at such high levels is a testament to the training and talent coming through. Can't be too long before this is reflected at provincial level

Cookies U 20 having a great season. Beaten Galwegians, Garryowen, Buccs, Highfield, Shannon and draw against a good Bohs side. Narrowly beaten by UCC by two points. should make top five and play off place easy enough.

From this wks Shannon notes -

The U/20’s were in sparkling form in Cork last Saturday where they very comfortably beat Con’s in the AIL by 43 nil. It was a devastating performance with the lads crossing the Cork Con try line on seven occasions.

In all fairness con usually have a piss poor 20's team. It seems the gulf between college rugby and club rugby still exists at 20's level, Particularly in cork. Everyone knows about the massive gulf between schools and clubs, but in some areas (not all) i exists at 20's level too. 99% of schools players move directly to college team in cork, those who start for the college are those who excelled in school.
