With no Quinny, do we go for the obvious in Foley or do you giveRonan, who knows the Leinster team very well, 50 min and then Foley to come on to (hopefully) close out game? Or a throw aserious curveball at Leinster and put Donncha Ryan at 6. He has played in the backrow before

Leamy will really need to step up to the plate in this match

The only question is will Wally be fit? If not Leamy, Ronan, Foley. Coughlan on bench.

But is Ryan worth looking at? He had a serious match on Saturday evening, carried well and has really bulked up this year.

Jake Paratagi broke his jaw against Clermont, out til January. Id say DK will stick Foley in and bring on Ronan at 50.I would like to see Ronan start

Better Foley starts, steady hand and then Ronan to come on at 50.

Would the opposite not be better, a pysched up flanker trying to show old team what they are missing out on and then Foley for 30 min to shut out game, bring him on with Ryan for some agression

This isn't just about beating Leinster it's about preparing a back row for the next 2 matches Vs Llanelli.

My view is start with Foley and on the 60th min maybe a change for Ronan or Coughlan depending on whether you want to move Leamy back to eight or leave him at flanker.

I hate to have to be the one to bring this up, but given previous....

What price Ryan and DOC to start at lock and MOD to move to back row?

The thought had crossed my mind as well balla - it would certainly make life intersting at the lineout - but how good is MOD in the backrow, and which position?

nope .. Ryan or DOC are better at back row, MOD just isn't agressive enough, the other two are born pain-in-the-necks to opposition which is what a flanker needs to be. All the moreso with Quinny absent. If Ryan or DOC aren't given a license to annoy Leinster then Leinster are too likely to settle into the game. Wheras if Leamy and one of Donncha's is let rip into them leinster won't settle.

I haven't seen enough of Niall Ronan to know if he'll do the same thing... is he as good at aggravating the opposition as Leamy & Quinny ?

I would like to see MOD or Ryan accommodated, but at eight. Foley will playand play at eight, so it means putting a player unfamiliar with blindside flanker in at the start.

Leamy or even Coughlan (if fit) at 6, with Ronan at 7 and Foley at 8.

Id agree MOD isnt a six.

We have options and they need to be tried before the sacrlets. If wally isnt fit id go with Ryan 6, leamy 8, ronan 7 and spring axel from the bench. We all know what axel can do so id rather try the more 'unknown' combination first

I doubt kidney will use MOD as a backrow considering the type of game
we're trying to play. Of our locks, Ryan corresponds most for what we
look for in the BR (good hands, mobile, agressive & quick. But we
still have 4 quality BR's fit & healthy so I wouldn't expect him to
    look outside of those 4.

I shudder at the thought of seeing Micko at 6 again, he'll have to go with either Leamy, Foley and Ronan or Ryan, Leamy and Ronan IMO.

Reckon it'll be Leamy, Wally (if fit, otherwise Ronan)and Axel, with Ryan to come on for Axel on 55-60. Might then move Leamy to 8. MoD and DOC will probably start in the 2nd row. Axel is not an impact sub at this stage of his career, but he could be crucial in keeping a steady hand on the tiller while we're in the trenches. Not a lot of room to manouvre in the end.

The other impact sub I could see coming on would be little Tony B (for Hayes...?). Might be worth turning up just to see Mushy and Ryan running ball-in-handat the Doc and Drico late in the game........

Unfortunately DK ignored form in selecting Hoggie over Dowling for Wasps match (no disrespect to anthony but in hindsight maybe it was a big ask coming back from injury). Going on Ryan's performance last week, think he deserves a place. Does he have any actual experience playing 6?

  27. #27
Think it will be 6 Ryan 7 Wally 8 leamy

  28. #28
Heard Wally is touch & go to make it, still troubled by ankle.

  29. #29

whatever about deccie ignoring form for 2 players from the same position I don't think he's going to put a lock in the back row if there are proven alternatives available... in this case Niall Ronan.

Leamy will end up at 6, Wally if fit at 7, and Axel at 8. And either Coughlan or Niall ronan will bench. Coughlan doesn't seem to be one of deccies preferred players, and Niall Ronan has impressed in his appearance to-date so I'd expect him to play... particularly if there's any doubt about wally's fitness.

I'd expect one of the donncha's to be on the bench as well, but as a lock sub. They'll only go inot he back-row if there's too many injuries.

Agree Lahinch Lass - why on earth you would want to risk Wally is one thing, but to deny Ronan a deserved starting place is very bad man management
