A week is more than enough time to have the game refixed and played at Thomond Park. It's been done with a days notice in the last few years for underage rep sides.

That said, I would hope that approaching the branch and asking if it could be moved to Thomond Park was an avenue explored. It is of course feasible that such a request would be turned down on the basis of the HEC game next week.

You are right, anyone who has been in Coonagh knows there are no lights in the car park and I am sure it doesn't take much to question why it was scheduled for Coonagh during the evening when certain conditions would not be safe/suitable for spectators??

When could it have been rescheduled? Monday-Fri means an evening kickoff. Saturday and Sunday were put forward by Shannon as alternatives but this was refused

In terms of other venues being made available, it is my understanding that an alternative venue was available as I listed above, but that it was made apparent by SRFC to be unavailable.

This sounds like pub talk. What are your sources for this? Why would Shannon refuse- they clearly wanted to play?

Surely a week would be enough to allow SRFC one of the ground's tenants to play there. Hopefully when the back pitch is fully recovered this will no longer be an problem.

You’re clearly not a Shannon fan if you don’t know the trouble Shannon have in getting Thomond Park free for a match

Yes in seasons past, where I have attended AGM's there were people who clearly deserved a chance to be on the committee but were denied, have probably not have had much interest in applying for said positions, things change, people have work/life commitments that might not allow for such dedication/funding towards the club.

Any contest for a position is put to a vote, do you have some issue with this?

I may not be a member of the club this year or the last but I will always be a SRFC supporter, and have been since I was a young lad! I just dont want to see the club that I love continue on its downward spiral, we were lucky last year to avoid relegation but this year could be the year that we drop out of the top, after a humiliatiing start to the campaign!
Why dont you take the job as coach/manager - you seem to have all of the answers lad!

    Nice talking with you Stephen!

It was already moved from a Saturday to the Friday as the Heineken Cup was on at the same time, so naturally that would have been refused. I cant really comment why Sunday wasnt an option. You say Shannon clearly wanted to play, what are your sources? Again - why was it scheduled in the fist place for a Friday evening when everyone knew it wouldnt be able to go ahead and then try in the last week to decide to cancel or reschedule it again?
No problem with democracy at all, it was just unfortunate to see people that wanted to bring some fresh idea's not given an opportunity.

Lots and lots of rumours and stories doing the rounds.....Players suspended by Club etc etc.....Unfortunately in the absence of any news or statements from the Club these tend to get blown out of all proportions....Now is not the time to withdraw subs but just ring the relevant people and ask for some clarity.....They can start with the Website, and explain how we only seem to have 13 Senior Players in the club????? Would have some patience...so many good people there on every committee, and am sure it will be straightened out...another few heavy defeats will totally demoralise a team of young passionate players who deserve all our support now...We lost probably the best PRO in the AIL after last season, big shoes to fill but am sure the new PRO will rise to the challenge.....on the playing side, loss of Dave Quinlan, Mossy....Donny....it all adds up,

There is not too much difficulty for Shannon or Bohs for that matter in getting Thomond Park for AIL fixtures. It is true that they must concede to Rabo games and Heineken games if those games are being played on the Friday evening or weekend of an AIL fixture.

A glance at the fixture list will show quite a number of AIL games by Shannon and Bohs that will take place in Thomond Park.

Their is a myth being perpetuated here that the Stadium Company are putting roadblocks in the way of Shannon. That is not the case. If by issue's you mean having to work under certain conditions -most of which are set out by the Bossman at Mayorstone and Fire Chief- then unfortunately it is something that has to be done.

I hope to god that Shannon do manage to sort themselves out and start moving in the right direction.

If enough people had paid their subs and voted them in they would have got their chance but no.. they just sit on the sidelines taking cheap shots.Where were they all at the last AGM? have no dout that there are and have been mistakes made. But they are been made by people who are at least trying and not sitting on the ditch trying to kick the club when its down.

Bannerman, quite a few people have become disillusioned and a lot still pay subs. You ask where they all were at the last AGM? Most likely teed off with the shenanigans that happened in the previous years. Many on here, including sparks want nothing but for Shannon to be successful again and not running through this crap. Making s.h.i.t of Geoff Moylan was just one boo boo.. and they did make **** of him, they rang him when he was in south africa on a lions tour to tell him he was no longer wanted. This was the guy who brought a group of players to win AILs when they never should have.

The club is in turmoil, and no amount of denying that will change it.

Dumptruck, the way to change or affect change is through the AGM. There is a constitution within the club that gives every paid up member an opportunity to air grievances, suggestions or opinions. Other club members help in many other ways. In times like this, as many clubs have gone through at one time or another, the club needs all its members and supporters to pitch in in whatever way they can to bring us through this. As I have already said, of course mistakes have been made, but those who didn't turn up because of the 'shenanigans' have no right to start moaning and criticising the club (of course apart from the normal commentary that all forum members are entitled to make). I don't know what happened to Geoff or Cullie but I do know that they were 2 fine coaches that we were lucky to have and, God willing, we will see in the cub again in whatever capacity. You may well be right But the opportunity was there for everybody to turn up at the AGM which a fraction of what turned up the previous year attended. All offices could have been challenged-none were. Sparks and everyone else are entitled to air their opinion on the club but true clubmen as with all other clubs will go that bit further. Easy to kick a dog when its down.

The club certainly is going through a tough patch -who is denying it? True club people are to busy trying to find solutions.

I havent walked at all - I still want the best for the club, unfortunately due to work I am unable to make games bar the odd Friday night game which I was looking forward to attending last night, hence part of my frustration with finding out other facts relating to the game being called off.

I may not be paying subs anymore but I am still a supporter of the club.

Why weren't HSS rang and 3 or 4 of the telescopic floodlights rented for the car park at Coonagh? You know the ones used during night time roadworks, usually a genny on a trailer with an extending boom. Car park gets lit, match goes ahead. They could have advertised and thanked the tool hire company during and after the game and the costigjt have been kept down.

Cowboy, money isn't what it used to be in club rugby any more. Even for a successful club like Shannon are having to keep costs to a minimum. This isn't limited to Shannon, all rugby clubs are feeling a serious pinch this year. I would be surprised if at least one Limerick Club doesn't go to the wire over the next two seasons.

Very true Woggas, these are damn tough times. They were once a club with serious pull and affiliates all over the place, thought they might have been able to call in a favour.

I agree that people have the chance at AGMs to have a say and try to enforce change, the reason I believe people don't attend the AGM in numbers - they believe that nothing is changing. How many EGMs have been held following AGMs in the last few seasons ?

Look, I'm far from kicking Shannon- I support them and have done since I was first brought to a game by my ould fella in the late 70s. It's a shame to see what is happening.

I wish them all the best and will still support them ,but by Jesus it's tough. I agree they are going through the mill as many clubs have done, Young Munster for the best part of the late 90s and early noughties struggled because of similar issues.

There are no favours any more Cowboy. Those days are well gone. Clubs aren't able to even get things on medium term credit. The clubs that will survive this recession will be the ones who are being run sound fiscally.

I stopped paying my sub to Shannon when they brought in the stupid requirement that you had to buy a Munster Season ticket from the club in order to be able to purchase Munster and International tickets. Personally I think the club has been going downhill for a while.
With regards to finances, can someone explain where all the money went from renting out the club house during the reconstruction of the stadium as a site office for Hegarty's ?

So Shannon conceded the SC game to YM. Are they just concentrating on preparing for the home game against Dolphin Saturday week?

Club rugby is finished, even as a semi-professional discipline. The clubs should be wound up and any property sold off to:

    1. boost the coffers of the Academy; and
    2. pay off Munster's long term debt.
