This case (tax evasion) has already taken years and he has at least 2 appeals left. Expect the appeals to take a good few years.

The other cases (the bunga bunga you referred) are on-going still.

For tax laws/returns that would be 10 years, but as a case was already initiated it doesn't apply. He could still go to jail, but I reckon he'll stall 'em by appealing. His lawyers should be able to string it out 'til he expires. He can afford the best. He did get off two cases in the 90s due to that, but now they can double the time (limitation) to 10 years.

The other case (bunga...) is still on-going too. He has a number of other investigations against him too (not gone to court yet). There is also immunity for serving politicians in particular types of cases; don't know if he can claim that too.

Silvio Berlusconi gets one-year sentence over wiretap

A Milan court has convicted former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi for the illegal publication of transcripts of wiretapped conversations in a newspaper owned by his media empire.
The court this morning sentenced him to one year in jail, although he is unlikely to be put behind bars during a possible appeal.
The charge related to the 2005 publication of a wiretapped call that was part of an investigation into a failed bid to take over a bank.
Last night, Italy's highest appeals court upheld a ruling clearing the former prime minister of tax fraud in connection with his Mediatrade broadcasting rights firm.
The decision cleared the 76-year-old of accusations that Mediatrade, the broadcast rights unit of his Mediaset group, acquired film and television rights at inflated prices to evade €10m in taxes in 2004.
His trial on charges of paying for sex with a juvenile prostitute is expected to wind up on 18 March, while a separate trial over broadcast rights is expected to conclude on 23 March.

His lawyers will be appealing that Drick. The other charges too if convicted. Plus there is the issue of sending an over-75 to jail under fairly recent legislation (enacted by/under guess who....).

He won't be on bread and water just yet; it could be a long struggle yet to get him to do a few days inside, maybe he'll manage to evade it until he pops his clogs. I wouldn't bet against that scenario.
