How long did Heaslip get for McCaw's head butting of his knee?
How long did Heaslip get for McCaw's head butting of his knee?
I have an extreme amount of sympathy for Hazell, he's a stand up character and having met the man after the 2008 quarter in Kingsholm he's a true gent of the sport and a total class act on and off the field regardless of this incident, his disciplinary record is exemplary and should no evidence be found against Mont-de-Marson (other than the blatant tackle off the ball followed by a forearm smash to the face by there prop that got the beat down) i hope the ERC do take into consideration he's a Veteran of 10+ yrs that has never reacted like this before.
I can only imagine what must've been going on to set him off like that!
But at the end of the day it'll be a 12 week suspension if evidence of provocation is found and anything upto 36weeks if not
He must have had sever provocation to act like that, but you simply cant beat a guy like that on the field in front of a 13 year old ballboy and all. the disciplinary officer has to take a number of things into consideration but all in all if hes not out of the game for a long time an element of legitimacy would be attached to an attack that if on the street would have got him a gbh charge. Rugby cant have that sort of retalliation
If the lessons of history teach us anything it is that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us.
at the end of the day as a "model pro" of 10 years in the game he must have met all sorts of wind ups and provocation on the field, including most of the nasty stuff like eye gouges etc. He may have acted out of character and i take your word for it as i don't know him but his loss of control and his attempts to knee in the head an opponent lying on the ground can in my opinion have no mitigating circumstances. He is a lucky man he didnt cause a serious head injury to his opponent .
I disagree, if someone has tried to gouge you how would you react in a hot tempered affair like that was, i don't care if it was POC, ROG or BOD the exact same would happen, if it turned out that Hazell has temperarly lost vision no one would argue with his reaction, he's just lucky he's coming away with just a suspension and not a career threatening injury!!

of course he was provoked bromance, thats obvious, but you cant retaliate like that be you hazell O' Connell or whoever
If the lessons of history teach us anything it is that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us.
Should post match citing apply to the first offence which led to the retaliation?
I don't get the well if he's been such a model pro he's seen all provocation so this isn't acceptable argument. Ladies and gentlemen I give you John Hayes stamping on Cian Healy's head. Glass houses and all that here people!!!

Has there been any word on his disciplinary hearing, i think it was today?
Glaws asked & were granted an extra week.

Following a request from Gloucester Rugby for a postponement, the hearing will
take place on Thursday, 25 October following Round 2 games. Hazell will be
ineligible to play until the disciplinary process has been completed.

14 weeks, joke
The Judicial Officer determined that Hazell had intentionally struck Ormaechea with both the fist and the knee. Having also determined that any suspensions he would impose for the offences would run concurrently, and as striking with the knee carries greater penalties than striking with the fist under the IRB Recommended Sanctions for Offences Committed with the Playing Enclosure, the Judicial Officer decided on a top-end entry point of 16 weeks.
Taking into account aggravating factors, he added a further two (2) weeks given Hazell’s disciplinary record and his failure to uphold the image of the game. Then following consideration of Hazell’s guilty plea and his exemplary conduct during the hearing, the Judicial Officer deducted four (4) weeks before imposing a suspension of 14 weeks.
Both ERC and the player have the right to appeal the decision.

Taz-Where did you get that information as I have seen nowhere that he(Penney) was ruled out?
Editor - The writer stands by the Penney information.

Editor-- This article originally said Rob Penney had missed out on the Munster coaching job. That information was incorrect.
You can see why the French get miffed a bit, what sanctions would be handed out if it had been a French player on an English player?
If you watch the footage closely, and make sure to take in from 5.25 on the youtube clip posted also which is actually a far better angle, none of the punches really land. The knee isn't clean either. None of which diminishes the intent, but I'm not sure what the prop is actually at. He seems to have decided to pan himself out flat from the off before any blows were thrown.
Surprised that sense was used. Ban seems reasonable to me.

The ban is fair, 14 weeks for the intent. From what I could see there wasn't much injury to the prop, mainly because of the possum-like position he assumed.
